American Airlines announces its new management team for Latin America and the Caribbean

American Airlines today announced the new leadership team that will oversee the Caribbean and Latin America regions.  

José María Giraldo will serve as Managing Director for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and Gonzalo Schames will serve as Director for South America and Strategic Alliances. Both leaders will report to José A. Freig, Vice President of International, working together to strengthen the airline's growing presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, without losing sight of its key alliances in South America.

"This year the regions of Latin America and the Caribbean have had great growth, with seven new destinations, more than 40 new routes and strategic alliances in South America that are increasing," said José Freig, Vice President of International at American. "We have outstanding leaders in our team who will continue to strengthen the international division and I am personally very happy to see José María and Gonzalo perform in their new roles."

José María Giraldo joined American more than 30 years ago working in different areas of the company in the Flight Service, Sales, Cargo and Operations departments. In his current role, José María oversees the airline's operations in Mexico, Central America, Ecuador and Colombia. 

Gonzalo Schames joined American in 1993 as a passenger service agent in Buenos Aires (EZE). He currently leads operations in the southern cone, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Uruguay.

American currently operates approximately 2,200 weekly flights to nearly 90 destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean, with four new flights opening in December: Anguilla (AXA), Dominica (DOM), San Andrés (ADZ) and Chetumal (CTM).
