The Brazilian hotel sector reaches rates above 80% during the end of the year holidays

Cities such as Angra dos Reis (RJ), Recife (PE) and Salvador (BA) registered occupancy rates close to their maximum capacity

The hotel industry in Brazil during the end of the year holidays had a very high demand. Some destinations in the country registered occupancy rates higher than 80%, especially Recife (PE), with 95%, and the attractions of Santa Catarina, which almost had their maximum capacity for the celebration. The capital of Rio de Janeiro, one of the main destinations in the country, was not far behind either, reaching 92%.

For the Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto, expectations for this time of year were very positive and were exceeded in some states of the country. “We had good numbers in most of our destinations, which encouraged our sector a lot. We can attribute them, in part, to the effort of the entire federal government and the sector with the adoption of biosafety protocols that protect tourists and workers, based on the growing adherence to the Responsible Tourism Seal by the Ministry of Tourism . With that, our tourists already feel safer to travel around the country again ”, he said.

In addition to the capital of Rio de Janeiro, other cities in Rio de Janeiro had rates close to 100% of hotel occupancy, such as Petrópolis (93%) and Angra dos Reis (97%). In Pernambuco, Tamandaré and Olinda registered 90%. In the municipalities of São Miguel dos Milagres, Maragogi and Porto das Pedras, the figures were also encouraging, reaching 100%.

In Salvador, Bahia, tourists occupied up to 90% of the capacity of the hotels in the city. In Rio Grande do Norte, the average percentage was 80%, with highlights for the city of Natal, Pipa and São Miguel do Gostoso. In the capital of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, the rate was 95%. In Ceará, occupancy reached 90% and in Maranhão, the number exceeded 80%.

Estimates from the Ministry of Tourism indicated that 6.7 million people would pass through the country's main airports during the last two weeks of the year. The figure was roughly 55% higher than in 2020, when the index hit 4.3 million. Among the terminals with the highest traffic are Congonhas, with 844.6 thousand passengers, and Viracopos, with 634,000, both located in the state of São Paulo.
