The company will baptize one of its aircraft with the name and image of the basketball team

Viva Aerobus, Mexico's ultra-low-cost airline, became the first Mexican sponsor of the San Antonio Spurs, a United States professional basketball team based in San Antonio, Texas. As a result of this alliance, Viva Aerobus will baptize one of its Airbus A320 aircraft with the name and image of the Spurs.

“Our fans in Mexico have always been a big part of the Spurs family and are deeply ingrained in our 'Por Vida' team culture,” said Katrina Palanca, vice president of global partnerships for Spurs Sports and Entertainment. “Viva Aerobus represents the vibrant Mexican culture and is aware of the great growth that this culture has in San Antonio. We are excited to learn how this alliance will help create even stronger connections with our fans in the United States and Mexico.”

With this agreement, Viva Aerobus and the Spurs will work as a team for the promotion of sport and healthy recreation, being the first time that Viva supports an American team, as a result of its vision of being the funniest airline in the Americas.

“Basketball is a global sport that unites communities and nations around the world and we are proud to partner with a successful team, winner of five NBA championships, and with whom we share values such as discipline, passion, determination and perseverance," he said. Juan Carlos Zuazua, General Director of Viva Aerobus: "We are excited because this alliance will allow us to connect with Spurs fans both in Mexico and in the United States," he added.

In the United States there are 2.9 million Hispanics who are fans of the Spurs, making it the sixth professional team with the most followers of that community in the United States. Specifically, in Texas there are 1.6 million Hispanic fans of this team and more than 700 thousand in San Antonio alone, this represents 55% of Hispanic adults in this city. Added to this are the 4.5 million inhabitants in Mexico who are Spurs fans, according to YouGov, an international Internet-based market research and data analysis firm. Consequently, the Spurs are positioned as the sixth NBA team preferred by Mexicans and 51% of their followers are concentrated in Monterrey and Mexico City; destinations that Viva Aerobus connects with San Antonio.

The sponsorship of this team is added to the growing offer of Viva Aerobus flights to the United States with a proposal at low prices that allows more people to travel and enjoy the Spurs games. In this sense, Viva operates three routes from Mexico to San Antonio, flying from Mexico City, Monterrey and León, being the airline with the largest international commercial operation in said airport. In this regard, it stands out that among all the fans of the NBA teams, the Spurs fans are placed in fourth place among those who want to visit Mexico as their first option for international travel.

"It's a really exciting partnership between our local team and our largest international airline. It represents a commitment to our community, something we're extremely proud of at San Antonio International Airport. And it's also a reflection of trust in our marketplace." given the significant growth that Viva Aerobus has recently experienced in San Antonio with nearly 40 round-trip flights per week,” said Jesús Sáenz, Director of Airports for the San Antonio Airport System.

As part of this sponsorship, the airline will carry out multiple dynamics on its social networks, as well as on-board activations for all lovers of this sport. Viva Aerobus and the Spurs will even begin the search for the team's super fan to surprise him with an unforgettable experience and take him to San Antonio to see one of the Spurs games live. Likewise, Viva Aerobus will be part of the advertising of the Spurs with a focus on radio promotions in Spanish and the television signal at the AT&T Center during the team's games.
