Felipe Ángeles International Airport strengthens Mexico's connectivity

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will contribute to the strengthening of national and international air connectivity, which will be reflected in the development of the tourist activity of Mexico.

Accompanying the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, at the inauguration of the AIFA, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) stressed that in this first stage it has the capacity to receive 19.5 million passengers a year and in its stage of maximum development will be able to transit 85 million air travelers annually.

“It is an honor to accompany President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and my cabinet colleagues at the inauguration of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport. It is a historic day for our country, since this work carried out by outstanding military engineers will strengthen the Mexican Airport System”, he declared.

He reiterated that the airport project that was being built in Texcoco represented a cost of more than double what the AIFA implied, it also affected the regulating vessel that captures rainwater from the Valley of Mexico, and now, 14 thousand hectares will be rescued for the benefit of the environment and the species of flora and fauna of the place.

Torruco Marqués also commented that thanks to the technological innovations that were implemented in the new airport, the documentation process for 180 passengers will take 33 minutes.  

He pointed out that the Felipe Ángeles International Airport is part of the Metropolitan Airport System, which together with the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and the Toluca Airport; It will meet the high demand for passengers in the Valley of Mexico, as is the case in other large metropolises in the world.

The Secretary of Tourism commented, for example, that in the United States, cities like New York have three airports: John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark; in Washington DC are the Ronald Reagan, Washington Dulles and Thurgood Marshall airports in Baltimore; in Chicago there is the O'Hare, and the Midway; and in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles, Burbank, Long Beach, John Wayne, San Bernardino and Ontario International Airports stand out.

World capitals such as Madrid, Spain, have the Adolfo Suárez-Barajas airport and the Cuatro Vientos; in Paris, France, there are the Charles de Gaulle, the Beauvais-Tillé and the Paris Orly; and in London, Great Britain, there are six, including Heathrow, Gatwick and London City Airport, said the Secretary of Tourism.

He indicated that in Beijing, China, there is the Beijing International Airport, as well as Daxing and Nanyuan; in Tokyo, Japan, the Narita and the Haneda; and in Latin America, Buenos Aires, Argentina, has the Ministro Pistarini-Ezeiza and Jorge Newbery airports; while Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has the Antônio Carlos Jobim- Galeão and the Santos Dumont.

Torruco Marqués specified that the AIFA strengthens the network of the Mexican Airport System made up of 76 airports, to which is added this infrastructure work and others soon, such as the Tulum Airport in Quintana Roo.

He pointed out that the new airport work also consists of a tourist and cultural corridor so that passengers can live a different experience while they wait for their flight or are in transit.

“From the discovery of mammoth remains in the construction of the AIFA, the Mammoth Museum was built, an interactive enclosure with six rooms where the remains of mammoths and other animals with an age of between 10,000 and 25,000 years are exhibited,” he explained. Torruco Marques.

He added that there is also the Military Aviation Museum, an attraction for aviation lovers and that will allow them to learn about the history of the Mexican Air Force. "Through different audiovisual resources and 12 exhibition galleries, as well as four temporary exhibitions, visitors will be able to see more than 50 aircraft up close, including those that were used for the first flights in the country."

Also, in the cultural corridor of Santa Lucía, visitors will be able to take a trip through time to the beginning of the 20th century to board the Historical Cultural Train made up of three restored wagons, added the secretary.

He reported that progress has been made with the directors of Mobility ADO to implement, shortly, a tourist transport service that allows citizens to get to know these three museums, as part of the social and human approach of the Ministry of Tourism.

The head of Sectur stressed that according to official information from the Official Airline Guide (OAG), 31 million 986 thousand plane seats are scheduled for this year, from different regions of the world.

“Aviation is a key element in the value chain of the tourism industry, an inseparable binomial that strengthens the development of our country. I celebrate the inauguration of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, and I congratulate the engineers of the Armed Forces who carried out this work in a record time of 29 months”, concluded Miguel Torruco Marqués.
