Dominican government begins work on the Malecón de Santo Domingo Este

With an investment of approximately 500 million pesos, President Luis Abinader, together with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, began work on the improvement of the Santo Domingo East Malecón, in order to diversify the tourist offer of the municipality and the province. .

In the president's words, with the new boardwalk the transformation, thrust and revitalization of this municipality, which is one of the most important in the country, is sought.

"The most important transformations are those that impact people's daily lives, that make their lives more comfortable or that give them options and better opportunities."

This work will provide a recreational space along the entire coastline on Av. España, from the facilities of the Navy of the Republic to the Las Américas highway.

It covers a length of 4.3 kilometers of coastline, plus 237 thousand square meters of natural park. In addition, 10 parking areas with capacity for 452 units and the sidewalks will be widened to 6.50 meters in width to be able to condition the bike lane along the entire length of the coast.

"We invest, reactivate, create jobs and change the image of the country and its cities," said President Abinader.

The improvement of the boardwalk also includes a photographic stop, pedestrian paths that connect all the microaccents, the regeneration of the existing green areas, lighting, construction of scuppers, speed bumps and containments for the correct course of the waters.

This work, announced last October 2021, is part of the rearrangement of the maritime fronts throughout the country and which in this case is also the entrance and exit of the city of Santo Domingo, being a route of great vehicular traffic.

David Collado, Minister of Tourism, described the work as an "icon of progress and development" for the municipality of Santo Domingo Este.

By increasing pedestrian traffic, the entire community will be impacted in the same way, especially small merchants and micro-entrepreneurs in the area.

In addition, the installation and construction of bars, restaurants, apartments and hotels is promoted, in addition, the renovation of the National Aquarium is underway.

On his side, the mayor of the municipality, Manuel Jiménez, highlighted the connectivity that this boardwalk will have with other points, such as the Las Américas International Airport, the National District, the Parque del Este, the Luisito Martí amphitheater, the Juan Pablo Duarte Square, the Parade of Culture, among others.
