Viva Wyndham Resorts, 35 years with the same commitment

The hotel chain founded in 1985 has a rich history, to learn more about it, we interviewed its President Ettore Colussi

Viva Wyndham Resorts, a firm that owns all-inclusive resorts located in the Caribbean, including Mexico, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, celebrates 35 years of excellence in the tourism industry. To learn more about its history and present, we exclusively interviewed its president Ettore Colussi. We share their responses below:

In the present, at what point does this anniversary find you?
At this moment we are satisfied and happy to be recovering after difficult years. We have a solid growth plan. Viva Wyndham Resorts is focused on the construction of two new resorts, one in Miches and the other in Jamaica. After the construction of both, we will have a presence in 4 countries.

In general terms, what is your vision of what is happening in the hotel business in the region?
As I always say, I started in 1986, if I had started about 10 years earlier, this would not have been possible since there was no idea of massive travel at that time. Nor would it have been possible if I had started some 10 years later, since it was not enough to have resources, enthusiasm and a lot of will to work as I had. Already at that time it was necessary to have more professional knowledge of the sector and the business.
At this time, the hotel business is already in a very mature state. In the sector where we find ourselves, we have many professionals, with a lot of experience and with large capitals.
Small companies stay in niche hotels or special destinations, but in places like Bayahibe, Punta Cana and the Riviera Maya, businesses are very competitive. I believe that the situation will continue to be this way since there are not many destinations left to develop in the Caribbean and therefore the large chains that are already installed continue to strengthen and that is what we hope will continue to happen with Viva Wyndham Resorts.

What are the niches that, according to your vision, have the greatest opportunity in the coming years and why?
One of the sectors that we have seen notable growth is hotels for adults, which fit very well with the concept of Viva Wyndham Resorts. Our vision is that in all our destinations we have a hotel for the family and one for adults nearby and that they connect with each other.
Tourism real estate has been developing a lot in recent years after being stagnant. Today there is a large market for hotels/apart hotels and we are developing similar structures as well.
Undoubtedly, the complementary offer of services such as SPA, diving, land and nautical excursions are of great value since the client is always looking for new experiences when traveling.
