The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that from January to March 2022, the arrival of 5 million 22 thousand international tourists by air to Mexico according to their nationality was registered, which represents an increase of 138.5 % compared to 2021, and still 7.0% to reach arrivals in 2019.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) pointed out that the main countries in international tourist arrivals by air to Mexico in this period were: the United States, Canada and Colombia, with 3 million 881 thousand tourists; this is 131.8% more compared to 2021, being 2.1% to reach what was captured in 2019.
He indicated that during the first quarter of the year, the arrival of Americans by air reached 3 million 185 thousand, 101.2% more than in 2021, when one million 583 thousand tourists arrived, also exceeding by 14.1%, the 2 million 792 thousand Americans who They arrived in 2019.
The arrival of Canadian tourists between January and March 2022 was 510 thousand 811 tourists; this is 1,445.7% higher than 2021; being 51.3% away from reaching one million 50 thousand tourists captured in 2019, commented Torruco Marqués.
He pointed out that in the first three months of the year, the arrival of Colombians by air was 185 thousand 78 tourists, which represents an increase of 216.8% compared to 2021, when 58 thousand 416 tourists arrived, and also exceeding 121 thousand 860 tourists. who arrived in 2019, which represents 51.9%.
The Secretary of Tourism stressed that the airports of Cancun, AICM and Los Cabos were the ones that received the largest number of international tourists, capturing 3 million 821 thousand international tourists, this is 134.1% more than 2021; missing only 5.0% to reach what was observed in 2019, when 4 million 24 thousand international tourists arrived.
