The "Capital of the Center of the World" received the main decision makers to attract congresses, fairs and international events
The Metropolitan Council, through Quito Tourism, organized the Fiexpo Workshop 2022 from May 3 to 5, which brought together representatives of professional associations, international corporations, event organizers and media specialized in MICE tourism to learn about the potential of the city as a destination for major events and world-class conferences.
On the first day, ICCA Lab was held, a workshop with Quito's MICE tourism stakeholders to promote the recruitment of international conferences. The activity was led by Andrés Escandón, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of ICCA, the world's most important congress and convention association, who taught the participants how to promote the destination and the new tools to attract events.
The second day, with the presence of the Mayor of Quito, Santiago Guarderas Izquierdo; the General Manager of Quito Tourism, Cristina Rivadeneira; the ambassador of Spain in Ecuador, Elena Madrazo; and other national and local authorities, the city's Metropolitan Convention Center was inaugurated.
In this same place, meetings were held between the 'hosted buyers' or those responsible for organizing events, congresses, conventions and incentive trips in different regions of the world and local exhibitors who showed the offer that the city has to receive these activities. In total, more than 600 meetings were held with a potential close to 50 million in possible future business for the destination.
In the afternoon, the conference 'The future of the meetings industry' was held, in which representatives of the city's tourist establishments participated. While, at night, the guests visited La Compañía where they enjoyed, not only the charm of the most important baroque temple on the continent, but also an artistic presentation to later witness a parade of dancers with a village band.
These experiences were carried out so that the event organizers live up close the magic and charm that the patrimonial Historic Center of Quito has.
Under the same concept, they visited Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, where they carried out integration activities that allowed them to discover the potential of this tourist attraction, the most visited in Ecuador.
All the activities were accompanied by the knowledge and flavors of Quito gastronomy that captivated the palates of the attendees.
In this way, Quito articulates actions at the local and international level so that the Capital of the Center of the World positions itself among the main MICE destinations of the continent and attracts more events that stimulate this economic sector and its productive chain.
