Colombia reaches pre-pandemic levels in international passengers

One of the most important tasks that the Government had to work on after the pandemic was in the recovery of air connectivity, a decisive aspect to lift the travel industry, after a severe impact, and also to stimulate foreign investment. 

According to the Civil Aeronautics, between January and April 2022, 4.3 million passengers were mobilized on international flights, which the union calculates as a reactivation of 92%, when compared to the same period in 2019, when 4, 7 million.

In the case of April, there was a growth of 5%, derived from the 1.19 million passengers who traveled on international flights, compared to the 1.13 million reported in that month of 2019.

“Currently, Colombia has 1,227 direct weekly frequencies, connecting with 26 countries and 43 cities, through 91 air routes. Returning to these figures was a priority and today, it makes us stand out in the region and in the world as one of the most advanced destinations”, explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO. 

The foregoing, taking into account that Colombia already reports growth, while, based on the International Air Transport Association, IATA, Latin America, in April, it barely obtained a 70% recovery in international passenger movement; and the world, 57%.

“The gradual lifting of restrictions, the articulated work with embassies and consulates and the international tourist promotion of Colombia, have been key to achieving this, which also becomes opportunities for Travel Agencies in Colombia, to diversify the offer of their tourist plans. national and international and generate greater alternatives to tourists”, said the union leader.
