In the period from January to May 2022, more than 13.2 million passengers were mobilized on domestic flights, which means a growth of 29%, compared to the same months of 2019
The outlook for tourism is positive. The reactivation of the travel industry has had a faster process than predicted, even, many of the indicators of the sector already show values that exceed those reached in 2019, cataloged as a record year for tourism in Colombia.
As is the case of passenger traffic on domestic flights, which, based on figures from the Civil Aeronautics, ANATO estimates that in the period from January to May 2022, more than 13.2 million were mobilized, which means a growth 29%, in relation to the 10.3 million that were registered in the same months of 2019.
“Currently, the movement of passengers on domestic flights represents 70% of the total air traffic in Colombia. Many destinations, such as the traditional ones, have already recovered the number of visiting tourists that they had been reporting in pre-pandemic times. However, there are others that have not yet achieved it, that have significant tourism potential and towards which promotion actions must be implemented”, said Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
Faced with this, some of these destinations that have not yet reached the figures for 2019 are: Quibdó with a reactivation of 95%; Yopal and Ibagué with 90%; Popayan, with 77%; Manizales, with 62%; and Buenaventura, with 36%.
“This, without a doubt, has not been an easy road, and there are still challenges ahead for national tourism in order to strengthen the confidence of tourists. Because although Colombians express their interest in continuing to travel, feeling safe will be what drives them to make the decision. For this, it is essential that the country's destinations continue to adapt their attractions towards the tranquility and safety of their visitors”, explained the union leader.
