The MICE segment recovers its vigor in Spain

IFEMA MADRID once again records pre-pandemic figures, with a record six-monthly turnover that exceeds 115 million

IFEMA MADRID strongly resumes its business after the hardest moments of the health crisis. The activity carried out in the first half of the year shows a recovery from pre-pandemic levels, reaching a record turnover in the first 6 months of 2022, with revenues soaring to 115 million euros, which means 30% more than what your budget contemplated. A start to the year that, in the words of the president of the institution's Executive Committee, José Vicente de los Mozos, "validates the determination that IFEMA MADRID has had to maintain its programming in times of extreme complexity, guaranteeing the holding of its events , with the benefits that this has meant not only for the sectors represented in these but also for Madrid and for our country in terms of induced economy”.

Holding FITUR last January effectively marked the way for the international revival of the sector. The success of its development, with the presence of more than 100,000 professionals from 127 countries, facilitated the holding of 145 fairs and corporate and leisure events, in which 8,580 companies have participated -22% of them international- and have visited 720,000 people, making it possible to complete practically the entire program for these six months. Major events such as ARCOmadrid returned to their usual dates, as did important international industrial shows such as SICUR or MOTORTEC. Events as popular as Education Week also returned to face-to-face events, without forgetting such special occasions as the 75th edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid,

Sustainability has also played a very special role in the chronicle of these first six months of the year, configuring around the Global Mobility Call, the successful novelty of IFEMA MADRID in this period, an interesting call for six important events, including highlighted GENERA, International Energy and Environment Fair.

On the other hand, IFEMA MADRID also led the face-to-face return of major congresses, both national and international. During the first semester of 2022, more than 20,000 professionals from all over the world have attended one of the 6 congresses held at the IFEMA MADRID Fairgrounds and Municipal Palace, highlighting the Heart Failure Congress, of the European Society of Cardiology; World ATM Congress, the largest air navigation event, and the Ibero-Latin American Congress of Dermatology, asserting IFEMA MADRID's status as the best congress venue in Europe.

The semester closed with two very unique events. On the one hand, the World Dog Show, the world's largest competition for dog breeders, in which more than 55,000 people and 16,500 breed specimens participated. And as a final touch, the NATO summit, which has brought together the most important world leaders in a meeting described as historic.

“These first six months of the year have definitely been very important for IFEMA MADRID. We validate our fundamental lines of work, which will be reflected in the coming months in a strategic plan for which we already have the main pillars, recovering our business with great strength, and projecting a year that we will conclude with an 80% increase in turnover, to reach 178 million in turnover". With these words, José Vicente de los Mozos wanted to summarize the progress of this semester, in which the hybridization of its proposals has been consolidated, strongly promoting innovation through projects such as HELIXA, which goes into in realms like the metaverse.
