A new measure will increase the admission capacity from 3,044 to 4,044 tourists per day
The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, announced that the Management Unit of the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu (UGM) confirmed the increase in visitors to the Llaqta de Machupicchu, a measure that will accelerate the reactivation of tourism in Cusco and in all of Peru.
“The admission capacity to the Llaqta or Inca citadel of Machupicchu will increase from 3,044 to 4,044 visitors per day, after the approval of the proposal by the UGM Steering Committee, made up of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of the Environment, the Regional Government of Cusco and the District Municipality of Machupicchu”, said Minister Roberto Sánchez.
It is important to mention that the increase will be given automatically from the publication of the respective ministerial resolution by the Ministry of Culture and will be valid, exceptionally, until December 31, 2022.
“During this time, the measure will be evaluated. increase in intake capacity. All this based on the implementation of the commitments assumed by the institutions that are members of the UGM, "added Minister Sánchez.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the Inca citadel received a maximum of 5,940 tourists a day. Although in 2020, the Ministry of Culture, taking up the UNESCO recommendation to guarantee the Outstanding Universal Value of Machupicchu, reduced this figure to 2,244 people.
However, considering the need to reactivate the tourism sector, without neglecting the recommendations of UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture has prepared a technical report that proposes to once again increase the admission capacity to 4,044 tourists per day.
