The planned works include the construction of a new passenger terminal and the renovation of the infrastructure
Within the framework of the development and modernization plan of the National System of International Airports, Aeropuertos Uruguay, together with the Ministry of National Defense, celebrated the inauguration ceremony of the Salto “Nueva Hespérides” International Airport.
Present at the ceremony were the Minister of National Defense, Javier García; the Mayor of Salta Andrés Lima; representatives of the company and national and departmental authorities.
With Salto there are already three airports in the country that have joined the management of the company, which received in 2021 the concession to manage and modernize the air terminals of Rivera, Salto, Carmelo, Durazno, Melo and Paysandú, joining that of the Carrasco and Punta del Este airports.
In this way, Aeropuertos Uruguay, which is part of Corporación América Airports, seeks to promote the growth of the aeronautical sector and generate a development ecosystem around the airport terminals and the communities in which it operates.
The investment program and work schedule, which was agreed with the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure after a survey of the current situation and needs of said airport, foresees an investment of more than US$ 60 million, between works, expenses operation and maintenance during the term of the concession.
The planned works include the construction of a new passenger terminal and the renovation of the airport infrastructure, the construction of a new fence and perimeter road, the resurfacing of the runway and taxiways, and the incorporation of sustainable technology.
LED beacons will be used for the runway and LED lighting for the apron, terminal and parking lot, and the airport will be equipped with a new approach lighting system, among other systems that will enhance the operational safety of the aerodrome.
The work schedule also includes the refurbishment of office spaces for State entities, the purchase of Fire Department equipment, the installation of a fiber optic ring, a security system with modern technology, among other actions that will be carried out from of the second half of 2023. All the improvements are intended to bring Salto Airport up to the operational safety standards of an international airport, in line with the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
“It is an honor to start operating and managing Salto Airport. We want to join our efforts and contribute a grain of sand to the work that is being done from the community to promote tourism and development of the department”, said Diego Arrosa, CEO of Aeropuertos Uruguay, during the act.
"We have no doubt that the modernization of the airport, and the synergies generated with local actors will have a great positive impact, developing not only connectivity, but also promoting the development of tourism and creating a pole of activity," he added.
This initiative marks another step in the company's purpose of developing a solid SINAI, which strengthens Uruguay's connectivity and is an engine of economic, tourism and logistics development for the community and the country.
