More than half a century ago, construction began on the largest hotel in Latin America, which would later become an icon of the city of Buenos Aires and its entire region: the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center. A pioneer in luxury hotels in Argentina, it was the site of historical events in the country and hosted famous visitors who transformed it into a symbol of the Buenos Aires urban scene.
Opened in 1972, it was the first international chain hotel to arrive on this floor. The 91-meter-high rationalist building gave rise to the Catalinas Norte urban complex, located in the Retiro neighborhood. Its construction began in 1969, by the architects Santiago Sanchez Elía, Federico Peralta Ramos and Alfredo Agostini, consecrating itself as one of the most dazzling works of that time.
Throughout its 50 years, it has become the place that brings the beauty of Buenos Aires closer to tourists, as well as the "home away from home" for thousands of executives who arrive for work from all over the world. That was how on August 24, Mr. Thomas E. Ralph, a member of the Ford Motor Company, became his first guest, premiering the magical book of that extremely hectic reception that he knew how to record an endless list of memorable names.
World leaders and even members of royalty have stayed at this imposing hotel on different occasions. Elite athletes paraded through its corridors, such as Diego Armando Maradona, Juan Manuel Fangio, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as "Pelé" and the famous Rafael Nadal, among other figures. International artists such as Frank Sinatra, Queen, Eric Clapton, Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, KISS, Chayanne, Bryan Adams, Shakira, Aerosmith and Justin Bieber, were also protagonists of the history of this true urban oasis.
With views of the Monumental Tower, the building is made up of 24 floors that house 740 rooms, including 33 suites, and its facilities include two swimming pools, a paddle club with four courts, modern coworking offices, two restaurants and a magnificent bar with a spectacular cocktail bar.
As far as its rooms are concerned, the hotel has one of the most important convention centers in South America, where events and conferences of national and international companies, embassies and multilateral organizations, among others, were held. Just by walking through them you can also appreciate how the melodies of the musical shows resonate within its walls, the joy of the families that with rigorous tradition celebrate the weddings of their different generations, without forgetting to mention their faithful collaborators who with their determining passion finalize the details of all kinds of events, be they congresses, cultural days, solidarity or social galas.
Sheraton Buenos Aires, a unique benchmark, has always known how to stand tall and proud; today he is working on his next project, an important renovation process where technology and sustainability will be its main protagonists.
Sheraton continues to provide 5-star service, creating memorable experiences that blur the lines between business and leisure. Always with excellence as a flag, it combines the warmth of the treatment of its latitudes, with the rigor and seriousness that the support of belonging to Marriott International provides.
