American Airlines receives the first Boeing 787-8 of the year

There are 42 ships from the same family waiting to be delivered over the next few years. It is projected that by 2027 they will all be operational

American Airlines took delivery of its first Boeing 787-8 aircraft of the year, becoming its first since April 2021. The aircraft, registration number N880BJ, was shipped from Charleston, South Carolina, and is expected to begin commercial service. In the next weeks.  

Each ship features General Electric Genx-1B engines, high-speed Wi-Fi, onboard entertainment, and AC/USB power.  

Since 2013, American has invested more than $24 billion to modernize its fleet, making it the youngest of any major US airline. For the last period of 2021, 55% of the main fleet of American was 10 years old or less.  

In turn, 670 of the older and less fuel-efficient aircraft have been retired to replace them with aircraft from the 787-8 family, which are 20.1% more efficient.
