Santa Marta Marriott Resort Playa Dormida presents the butterfly route

Guests will appreciate a collection of Mario Hernández pieces, Ron Viejo de Caldas cocktails, and a special menu from executive chef Alirio Rodríguez

The Santa Marta Marriott Resort Playa Dormida and Mario Hernández present the Ruta de la Mariposa, an exclusive experience in which the beauty of Santa Marta, local gastronomy, exclusive services and the best of national design converge.

This unprecedented collaboration between the luxury brand and the Samario hotel pays tribute to the more than 30 species of butterflies endemic to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and is specifically inspired by the Morpho Rhodopteron or the pearly blue, which according to researchers is only found in this corner of the planet.

From the Ruta de la Mariposa the public can enjoy the benefits of the destination and a collection of pieces by Mario Hernández created exclusively for the occasion, as well as Ron Viejo de Caldas cocktails and a special menu by the executive chef of the Alirio hotel Rodríguez, all this through a guided experience.

“It will be an unforgettable opportunity in a destination that has everything to make travelers fall in love. We are pleased to form this alliance with such prestigious brands as Mario Hernández and Ron Viejo de Caldas, to offer our guests an unprecedented stay”, added Mario Mata, director of Marketing and Sales of the Santa Marta Marriott Resort Playa Dormida.

“The Mario Hernández family is proud to work with the Santa Marta Marriott Resort Playa Dormida, in the Ruta de la Mariposa experience, many years of work to reach this moment. We do it with the intention of raising the name of our country, Colombia, and offering an experience that defines our culture. This alliance between the hotel, Ron Viejo de Caldas and Mario Hernández is a team effort to build the country and bet on creativity,” said Mario Hernández.

Those who dare to experience the Butterfly Route will stay in a room decorated by Mario Hernández, with butterflies on one of the walls, in the mirrors and on the balcony, looms alluding to the theme, a blue morpho display accompanied by a QR code with information regarding this species, amenities and surprise gifts.

In addition, they will be able to see first-hand the metamorphosis of this species, because in the room guests will find a small box with a sphere of natural fibers, and inside the sphere a pupa. In the box you will find the indications about the butterfly that will be born, the release legend and care indications.

The objective of this initiative is, on the one hand, for the public to be able to observe the metamorphosis of this insect, and on the other, to raise awareness about the protection of species in the area. If the butterfly hatches during the stay, the guest must allow it to leave the room, but if it does not hatch, the guest will be invited to leave the pupa in Duzano, a wooded area next to the hotel.

Beyond the room, the participants will identify their reserved spaces on the beach, the restaurant, the pool and the spa, as they will find the exclusive design of Mario Hernández, who even designed a tableware especially for the experience.

Other services included in the Ruta de la Mariposa are a treatment at the hotel's Seishua Spa, access to the Jacuzzi at sunset, and a cocktail class with an expert in Ron Viejo de Caldas.

In addition, in the hotel lobby there will be an exhibition of Mario Hernández bags, which can be purchased by the public for an additional cost.

The exclusive experience will be available from August 2022 to March 2023, details on the Ruta de la Mariposa site.

Additionally, along with the Ruta de la Mariposa, the first Marriott Bonvoy Moments arrives in Santa Marta, through an elevated experience with exclusive pieces by Mario Hernández. Marriott Bonvoy Moments is the exclusive experience platform for Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International's award-winning travel program, where members can either redeem their points for fixed-price experiences or use them to bid on experiences through auctions. The Marriott Bonvoy program has more than 169 million members worldwide, and more than 5 million members in Latin America, with benefits in the global portfolio.
