The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that, with figures from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) in July 2022, the flow of passengers on international flights to Mexico was 2 million 374 thousand 238 passengers, which represented 85% of the total scheduled seats in that month, which was 2,802,254 seats, the highest level reached from January to July 2022.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that the proportion of international passengers transported against the offer of scheduled seats in the month of July 2022, exceeds by one percentage point the 84% achieved in June 2022.

He explained that the proportion of international passengers transported to Mexico against the offer of scheduled seats in the previous months of 2022 was 78% in May, 76% in April, 77% in March, 70% in February and 62% in January 2022. respectively.

Based on information from the Official Airline Guide (OAG) for the year 2022, there is a schedule of 32 million 457 thousand 845 seats to Mexico from different regions of the world, which represents 27.9% more than what was scheduled in 2021, which was 25 million 377 thousand 406 seats.

Torruco Marqués indicated that from January to July 2022 the flow of passengers on international flights to Mexico was 14 million 501 thousand 727. By region, North America represented 76.9% with 11 million 152 thousand 5 passengers, followed by the Caribbean region, Central and South America with one million 935 thousand 712 passengers transported, that is, 13.3% of the total; from Europe, one million 376 thousand 856 passengers arrived, which represented 9.5% of the total, and from Asia, 37 thousand 154 passengers were transported, with a participation of 0.3% of the total number of passengers on international flights that arrived in Mexico.

He stressed that from January to December 2022, the scheduled seats to Mexico from the North America region are 24 million 785 thousand 694 seats, which represents a participation of 76.4% of the total.

Torruco Marqués pointed out that by 2022, the airlines with the largest participation in scheduled seats are: American Airlines with 15.3% of the total, Aeroméxico with 12.4% and United Airlines with 11.2%, which together add up to 12 million 598 thousand seats.

He stated that by 2022 the airports with the largest number of scheduled seats on international flights to Mexico are Cancun, the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Guadalajara, adding 23 million 852 thousand seats, which represents 73.5% of the total.

He added that by 2022 the international routes to Mexico with the highest number of scheduled seats are: Dallas - Cancun with 736 thousand 180 seats, Houston - Mexico City with 609 thousand 782 seats and Los Angeles - Guadalajara with 561 thousand seats.

The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that for this 2022, 73 million 976 thousand 523 scheduled seats are offered on domestic flights between the different destinations of the country, this represents 26.6% more than the 58 million 455 thousand 611 scheduled seats in 2021.

He argued that, on domestic flights, July 2022 was the month with the highest number of passengers transported with 5 million 319 thousand 187 passengers, which represented 79% of the offer of seats scheduled for that month, which was 6 million 749 thousand .

Additionally, the Secretary of Tourism detailed that, by 2022, the airlines with the largest participation in scheduled seats are: Volaris with 40.3% of the total, Viva Aerobus with 30.4% and Aeroméxico with 26.5%, which together add up to 71 million 907 thousand seats, with a 97.2% share of the national market.

Likewise, by 2022, the main national routes with the highest number of scheduled seats are: AICM – Cancún with 3 million 89 thousand seats, Cancún - AICM with 2 million 839 thousand seats and AICM – Monterrey with 2 million 257 thousand seats.
