The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that on the occasion of the 2022 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Mexico, it is expected that an average of 227 thousand tourists will stay in hotel rooms in Mexico City during the days of the event, from Friday to Sunday, of which 50 thousand will be foreigners.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that an average hotel occupancy rate of 77.2 percent is estimated in this metropolis, which is equivalent to 121,204 occupied rooms.

He pointed out that in terms of lodging, an economic spill of 251 million pesos is expected, this is around 12.5 million dollars, and the spill for tourist services is calculated at 2 thousand 758 million pesos, approximately 137 million dollars. .

He reported that Mexico City has 634 lodging establishments, totaling 52,764 rooms. The calculation is based mainly on 5-star hotels, with 17,441 rooms; 4 stars, with 13 thousand 349; and 3 stars, with 10 thousand 576 rooms and in the lower category those of 2 and 1 star.

Torruco Marqués highlighted that during the days of the event an average capacity of 375 thousand spectators is expected, being the second venue with the most attendance in 2021, only below Austin, Texas. He mentioned that in 2019, 348,000 fans attended and in 2021, 371,799.

He stressed that the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix in Mexico City has been awarded on different occasions as the best of the year by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), above the rest of the championship venues, and airs in more than 200 countries, receiving approximately 2,400 hours of coverage worldwide

The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that the spill for the media coverage of the race, which will take place from October 28 to 30, will be between 6 thousand and 7 billion pesos, as well as an additional 5 thousand 200 million pesos for other concepts. , such as ticketing and sale of souvenirs, according to data from the organizers of the event, these amounts represent 585 million dollars.

He emphasized that the economic impact of the 2022 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Mexico will be 14 thousand 709 million pesos, which represents around 732 million dollars, and contributes to an average of 8 thousand 700 jobs in Mexico City.
