Grupo Piñero reduces its carbon footprint by more than 40% in the last four years

The company has optimized its energy and water consumption in its hotel division, by more than 28% and 30%, respectively, compared to 2018

Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with almost 50 years of history, has made significant progress in the main environmental indicators, thus contributing to the fight against climate change. So much so that its latest registered indices, corresponding to 2021, reflect a notable evolution compared to 2018, the year in which tourist activity was carried out normally.

Specifically, during the past year the hotel division has reduced energy consumption by 28% compared to 2018. Grupo Piñero has articulated different projects aimed at reducing the carbon footprint such as the installation of renewable energies for self-sufficiency, the contracting of energy with Guarantee of Origin, the promotion of sustainable mobility, the modernization of energy equipment, the monitoring of consumption points or the automation of processes and facilities with energy consumption.

In the same way, the company has also registered a significant reduction in its carbon footprint, 43% compared to 2018. In this sense, Grupo Piñero has the strategic objective of achieving the total decarbonization of its activities in 2050, to do so, in the coming years it will reduce carbon emissions by 60%, in line with its commitment to the 2030 Agenda. It has also reduced water consumption by 30% compared to 2018.

In the words of Isabel Piñero, CSO Chief Sustainability Officer of Grupo Piñero, “We have been working for years to move towards a model of responsible and sustainable tourism with people and the planet. We have implemented actions to improve people's quality of life, as well as to curb climate change." To which she has added, “in this sense, we will continue working on an essential pillar of our sustainability strategy such as “energy and climate” to achieve the objectives that we have established in our Strategic Sustainability Plan 2022-2030”.

Firm environmental commitment
Immersed since 2015 in the work of incorporating environmental, social and ethical criteria into its business strategy, Grupo Piñero takes another step forward in the conservation of natural assets materializing this contribution, which it has been developing for some time through different actions and projects, with the recent creation of an Environment Area.

Framed in the Sustainability Division and led by Pablo del Toro, the department acquires its own entity and, with this, ratifies its environmental commitment as well as reinforcing, among others, the management of risks derived from Climate Change, moving towards a model of clean and circular business that allows you to optimally manage resources. Likewise, it also makes clear the urgent need for the Group to transform its development model to make it more inclusive, fairer and, of course, more respectful of nature.

In the same way, the company, through the "We are Ecoists" movement, calls on all of society to carry out actions that contribute to the conservation of the planet and thus work together in the fight against climate change.
