Getting married in Antigua and Barbuda
In order for the ceremony to take place legally, passports and documentation such as a declaration of divorce, if applicable, must be taken to the Ministry of Legal Affairs on Queen Elizabeth Highway in St. John. After the payment of about 150 dollars and an interview with the bride and groom, a permit will be issued to carry out the wedding. Then, those interested must go to the General Registry, which is located in the old Treasury building. There they must pay a fee of 40 dollars to register the procedure in court and another fee of 10 dollars to obtain the official marriage certificate.
If the bride and groom decide to get married outside the Palace of Justice, an extra fee of $100 must be paid. Most couples who get married on the islands choose hotels, villas or beaches with two or more witnesses, who in many cases are other guests staying at the place.
