A hotel of high standards will be developed in the area to the east of Havana, the Gran Caribe Hotel Group of Cuba and Iberostar Hotels & Resorts (Spain) announced in a joint statement.
Gran Caribe will be the owner of the new facility, which will be operated by Iberostar, an establishment that seeks to combine the enjoyment of its urban spaces, culture and heritage with days of relaxation on the beach.
The hotel will have 750 rooms and its construction is planned in the vicinity of Santa María del Mar beach, in the municipality of La Habana del Este, famous for its spa.
As explained by the director of Mixed Companies of the Greater Caribbean, Mishmell Machado, it will be a product of excellence and its design will strictly respect criteria of sustainability and environmental protection.
He said that it will be a hotel under the concepts of sustainable development, which will greatly contribute to the diversification of the offer for which the Greater Caribbean and Cuba bet for the coming years.
At the recently concluded Havana International Fair, the joint venture between Gran Caribe and Iberostar, called Iberoantillas SA, was established, recalled the manager.
With this company, the foundations are laid for the advancement of this project. According to Machado, in a period of approximately four years the new accommodation will be ready, which will have a five-star category and, due to its proximity to the city, is already emerging as an advantageous option to support the events and congresses that are held every year in the west of Cuba.
The specialist also announced that the Gran Caribe is advancing in lines of joint work with other foreign companies, to develop three new joint ventures with similar objectives (to expand and diversify tourism and accommodation offers).
He explained that in the 2023-2027 period, three thousand rooms are expected to be added to the group's portfolio under the concept of foreign investment.
The eastern beaches of Havana are approximately 18 kilometers from the city center. They are favorites of residents in the city during the summer months, and they also receive visitors from other countries who like to rest in their landscapes.
