Diriyah, heart of the first day of the WTTC World Summit

The participants of the event got to know this historical and emblematic point of Saudi Arabia that they seek to value

The 22nd edition of the event brought together thought leaders and decision makers in the field of global tourism and included a tour of Diriyah, the birthplace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's history and heritage. This emblematic place today is part of a megaproject that was announced for the first time in 2017 and that seeks to restore the area and disseminate this heritage of humanity. Today it extends over 14 square kilometers and there are several axes to work on to continue its development. For example, the construction of a university and a museum is taken into account.

Diriyah is located northwest of Riyadh, in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula. There stands the district of Turaif, the first capital of the Saudis that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2010: founded in the 15th century, it contains testimonies of the Najdi architectural style.

In addition, its historical importance dates back to the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century for its political and religious role: the Citadel of Turaif was the center of the temporary power of the House of Saud and the expansion of the Salafiyya reformism of the Muslim religion.

For the organizers of this initiative, the objective is to provide unique experiences, educational and cultural opportunities, residential life and offers that include shopping, entertainment and gastronomic experiences.
