Brazil prepares for a record season of international travelers

Brazil foresees for the summer 2022-2023 a level of international air connectivity that represents 95% of what it had until the same month of 2019, the year before the pandemic

The month of November ended with a total offer of 4,367 flights and 1,054,114 seats to and from Brazil, that is, 44.5% more than in the same period of 2021, despite the fact that November is considered low season in the tourist business. According to the Brazilian Agency for the International Promotion of Tourism, EMBRATUR, between December 2022 and July 2023, the opening of 190 new international flights, renewals or additional frequencies to and from Brazil is expected.

Latin America continues to lead international connectivity to the Brazilian market, with 56.88% of the total number of new flights planned, and with Argentina as the second main issuer of foreign tourists. Until the last week of November, the United States was still first in the ranking of plane tickets purchased for the 2022-2023 summer season to Brazilian destinations with almost 200,000 tickets. In second place is Argentina, with just over 195,000 tickets, followed by Portugal (68,169), Chile (58,314) and Italy (42,878).

According to a study by EMBRATUR together with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), at the beginning of December more than one million international tickets had already been sold to enjoy Brazilian destinations between December 2022 and March 2023, in the middle of the summer season. in the southern hemisphere. The Brazilian region that receives the most international flights is the Southeast, with 86.46% of all international frequencies. This region - the most populated in the country - includes the states of São Paulo (the country's main air hub), Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.

The data on foreign tourist spending in the country is also promising: Brazil surpassed the 4 billion dollar mark in the first ten months of the year. The tourism sector had recorded spending of $2.9 billion and $3 billion in 2021 and 2020, respectively, according to the Central Bank. By way of comparison, in 2019, the last year before the pandemic, there were 5.9 billion dollars spent by foreign tourists, although the all-time record is still 2014, the year of the World Cup, with 6.84 billion dollars. .

"EMBRATUR maintains constant meetings with world airlines in search of expanding our connectivity and we recently launched promotional campaigns in the United States, Europe and Latin America, in which our summer is treated as a differential for foreign tourists. This important number of air tickets has already sold confirms the assertiveness of our actions", affirms the president of the organization, Gilson Machado Neto.

The number of Argentine travelers to Brazil is gradually recovering, according to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 summer seasons. According to estimates by the firm GlobalData, an annual growth of 19.6% is expected for the entry of Argentine tourists to Brazil from 2022 to 2023. If this forecast is confirmed, there will be some 482,000 Argentine tourists in Brazil in the summer of 2022-2023.
