Colombia had its best period of inflow of foreign currency from tourism

Between January and September, exports for travel and passenger air transport were USD 5,263 million dollars, which means a growth of 8% compared to the same period in 2019

Throughout 2022, the entry of tourists to Colombia has been growing, marked by the holiday seasons, and the creation of new packages from Travel Agencies to places with tourist potential. This has led to a 99% recovery, between January and October in non-resident visitors, compared to the same period in 2019, according to ANATO calculations, based on figures from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

“The above has been a great economic contribution for Colombia, and this is how foreign exchange from tourism is classified as the most relevant element for the export of services in this activity. This has also been possible with the participation of businessmen in international fairs, the marketing spaces that we opened for them in 2022 and the support for the promotion of the different regions of the country”, explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.

According to data from Banco de la República, ANATO calculates that, between January and September, exports for travel and passenger air transport were USD 5,263 million dollars, which means a growth of 8% compared to the same period in 2019.

In the case of the third quarter of 2022, the best result of the year so far was obtained, with USD2,044 million, that is, 20% more than what was revealed during the same months of 2019, and a 60% participation over the total service exports.

In this way, it is calculated that between January and September, the average expense of the non-resident visitor was USD 1,642, which means a growth of 10%, if compared to the same period of 2019.

"To maintain this growth trend, it is essential to continue working on security, formality, connectivity, support for companies, among others, and in this way continue to attract the attention of foreigners so that they can visit Colombia's tourist attractions and increase average spending. The country has great potential in receptive tourism and therefore actions must be implemented to give tourists greater confidence in visiting us." concluded the union leader.
