According to SKY data, the sale of tickets registered a notable increase for the summer of 2023, where international destinations such as Miami, Lima, Bariloche, and Rio de Janeiro also stand out
The summer holidays are approaching and Chileans are already beginning to plan for the hot and beach season. According to data from SKY, the airline with the newest fleet in America, there was an increase in the sale of tickets to international destinations for the months of January, February and March. This increase goes hand in hand with the recovery that the industry has had after the pandemic and the easing of travel restriction measures.
This increase in the demand for tickets for the summer season was driven by CyberSKY. The offers managed to attract more than 130,000 passengers, who chose to fly on the airline with the fairest prices to enjoy this summer. For the month of January, ticket sales increased by 23%, compared to CyberSKY 2021, in February the increase was 14% and in March 55%.
For those who shopped during CyberSKY, the favorite destinations chosen for the December-March period were Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Lima. The capital of Peru registered an increase of 33% compared to the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, Sao Paulo increased the number of passengers by 150%. Finally, Rio de Janeiro maintained the same number of travelers, sustaining the great interest in traveling to one of the best tourist destinations in the world.
A destination that broke all sales records was Cancun, the paradisiacal beaches of the Caribbean positioned themselves as one of the favorite destinations for this season and the Mexican city increased its ticket sales by 80%.
Along the same lines, the new route to Miami, opened this year by SKY, managed to sell more than 2,500 tickets during the last CyberSKY for the high season. This new destination, at fair prices, has allowed more Chileans to enjoy this wonderful city.
“We are very happy that Chileans are enjoying summer again and that more people can travel to the incredible international destinations that SKY offers, all at the fairest price. In this sense, a great option is Bariloche, a route that we are inaugurating this summer and of which we are the only operator that offers direct flights between Santiago and this incredible city in Patagonia”, says Jaime Fernandez, SKY Sales Manager.
SKY airline has 11 international destinations throughout the continent where the route to Miami stands out, the opening of the direct route to Bariloche and also to Florianópolis, which is open throughout the year. To these great destinations are added Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Lima, Cancun and Punta Cana, among others.
As if that were not enough, the airline announced that it will open a new domestic destination in Peru. This is the Lima-Talara route, an area of high tourist value due to the beautiful beaches in the north of this country, which have become a must for trips within the region. The route will be available from December 16.
New features to facilitate travel in high season
Looking ahead to this peak season, SKY introduced new digital features to make travel even easier. This is automatic check-in, a tool that allows the boarding pass to be sent to the passenger ready to board, with the possibility of making improvements according to the needs of the traveler. This technology is already underway for domestic flights.
Added to this new functionality is the previous implementation of the self-service modules at the Santiago airport, in which the boarding pass can also be generated for passengers who cannot be checked automatically. Likewise, they may have the option of delivering the luggage in the hold, through the new technology called "Self Bag Drop" or "Self Baggage Labeling", which allows the passenger to create the luggage ticket, label it and enter it himself at the baggage carousel, speeding up waiting times at the airport.
