Mexico City arrive at Punto Mexico in Sectur

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, and the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Nathalie Desplas Puel, representing the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, inaugurated the exhibition "Art and Colors of the City de México”, which exhibits the artisan, gastronomic and tourist wealth of the country's capital during the month of January in the Punto México space of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).

The head of Sectur highlighted that throughout this month, visitors will have the opportunity to purchase products that show the skill of the artisans of our capital city, such as toys, textiles, pottery, ceramics, jewelry, sweets and chocolates, to name a few. Some.

In turn, he indicated that they will be able to appreciate three pictorial works, winners of the First Federico Kampf Biennial, an important artistic platform that aims to support and promote the art of Mexicans in our country and the world. In this sense, he specified that the master Kampf is in Dubai working on various projects, "but the creators of these wonderful artistic pieces are with us: Itzeel Reyes, José Luis Ramos and Leonardo Sánchez, first, second and third place respectively, whom I congratulate for raising the name of Mexico”.

Torruco Marqués affirmed that Mexico City is one of the most visited destinations in Latin America for tourists staying in hotels and the second in foreign visitors.

He added that it has 52,764 rooms in 634 hotels and almost a thousand restaurants with a tourist vocation, highlighting 2 of the 10 best worldwide: Pujol and Quintonil, according to the publication The World's Best Restaurants of 2022.

“And what to say about the wide tourist offer of the former Tenochtitlán, which houses the archaeological zones of Cuicuilco, Tlatelolco, the Templo Mayor, Mixcoac and the Cerro de la Estrella; the Basilica of Guadalupe, one of the most visited Catholic sanctuaries in the world; its 173 museums, and the sites declared by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage of Humanity: the Historic Center of Mexico City; Xochimilco; the central campus of Ciudad Universitaria of the UNAM and the Casa-Taller de Luis Barragán.

The Secretary of Tourism reiterated that Mexico City will be, for the first time in its history, the headquarters of the Tianguis Turístico México, which will hold its 47th edition from March 26 to 29, as the most important fair in Latin America in terms of of tourism, and where all the marks of previous editions will be broken. “I extend a cordial invitation to join us,” he declared.

For her part, the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Nathalie Desplas Puel, thanked the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, for the opportunity to present the artisanal beauty of Mexico City, in the Punto México space.

He added that the tourist recovery in Mexico City is a reality, which is reflected in the reception of 11.9 million tourists staying overnight in a hotel in 2022, 173% more than in 2021, and achieving 85.4% of what was registered in 2019. Regarding spending and economic benefits, he mentioned that the recovery is almost complete in relation to 2019, registering 96.6% of the figures for that year.

"With this exhibition we begin the first month of this great year, 2023, which is full of projects and great events that will continue to place the capital of the country among the best destinations in the world," he added.

Desplas Puel recognized the people who will exhibit their products at Punto México, with handicrafts worthy of the "capital that has everything", until January 28, demonstrating that tourism is one of the most dynamic sectors of the economy, whose components They are also the traditions, the gastronomy, as well as the historical and cultural heritage of Mexico City, which today is reflected in those "magical hands". 

Reiterating the importance of the tourism sector, Secretary Miguel Torruco Marqués emphasized that the current administration stopped managing the inertia of the past and continued working to increase per capita spending, which is how the tourism potential of a nation is measured. where Mexico went from place 40 to 29 and from 17 to 9 in foreign currency income from tourism.

The foregoing, thanks to the policies implemented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during the pandemic, by not restricting international flights; the prompt implementation of the biosanitary protocols in a joint effort between the Ministry of Health, the Sectur and the private sector; as well as the acquisition and application of vaccines.

In the same way, he added that after more than 20 years of abandonment, the General Directorate of Tourist Services Ángeles Verdes, was modernized thanks to the delivery of new uniforms and the start-up of the Geointelligence Center, the same to which the Award for Technological Innovation at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2023.

Also present at the event were the Undersecretary of Tourism, Humberto Hernández Haddad; the general director of the Mexico City Mixed Tourism Investment Fund, Christian Leslie García Romero; the general director of Tourist Equipment of Sectur CDMX, Lorenzo Arvizo Bencomo; among others.

The exhibition "Art and Colors of Mexico City" will be in force during the month of January in  Sectur's Punto  México space, at Av. Presidente Masaryk No. 172, esq. with Hegel, col. Bosques de Chapultepec, Miguel Hidalgo mayor's office, Mexico City, from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sundays and holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
