FITUR 2023 began, a key edition to consolidate the recovery of international tourism

Until next Sunday the 22nd, a total of 8,500 participants, 131 countries, 755 main exhibitors make up the 43rd edition of the International Tourism Fair at IFEMA MADRID

The King and Queen of Spain today inaugurated the 43rd edition of FITUR, the International Tourism Fair organized by IFEMA MADRID, which is being held at a key moment to consolidate the recovery of tourism activity around the world.

HM King Felipe VI and HM Queen Letizia were received by the president of the Executive Committee of IFEMA MADRID, José Vicente de los Mozos, and they were able to greet the president of Guatemala, a FITUR Partner Country, Alejandro Eduardo Giammattei Falla. Together they have toured the different pavilions of the International Tourism Fair, also accompanied by the president of the Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet; the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso; the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Reyes Maroto; the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikasvili, and the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

FITUR reaches this 2023 a record exhibition area, with 8 packed pavilions, as well as the direct participation of stand holders (755) that grows 32% compared to the last edition and up to 50% in relation to international participation. Regarding the forecast of attendees, and in line with the very positive response of participation, a significant influx is expected, with figures that will exceed 120,000 professionals, and between 80 and 90 thousand visitors that will attend the weekend.

This will also have its correspondence in the capacity of FITUR to generate a relevant economic injection for Madrid, with an estimated income of more than 400 million euros in the Region in sectors such as accommodation, transport, commerce or leisure and restaurants.
