During the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2023), TagAirlines, the flag carrier of Guatemala, signed a letter of understanding with the Secretariats of Tourism of the southern states of Mexico that make up the Mundo Maya (Chiapas, Quintana Roo and Yucatán). , with the aim of strengthening joint actions to promote tourist destinations in this important region.

This will make it possible to contribute to the promotion of tourist destinations in the Mayan World, recognizing it as one of the most important projects to promote socioeconomic and tourist development.

In the document, the signatories point out that tourism is a strategic activity that promotes economic and social development, the preservation of the environment and the strengthening of the cultural identity of the peoples.

The signing ceremony was attended by Marcela Toriello, President of TagAirlines; Julio Gamero, CEO of TagAirlines; the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama; the Technical Secretary of the Mundo Maya Organization, Ana Beatriz González; the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto; Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Secretary of Tourism Promotion of Yucatan, and Magnolia Candelaria Velazco Ramos, Director of Events and Attention to Segments of the Secretary of Tourism of Chiapas, representing Katyna de la Vega Grajales, Secretary of Tourism of Chiapas.

Julio Gamero stated that TAG Airlines is committed to strengthening air connectivity between the main destinations in the region, to strengthen tourism activity and economic development.

Currently, TagAirlines offers a daily frequency between Cancún and Guatemala, as well as four frequencies to Oaxaca, Mérida and Tuxtla Gutiérrez, in addition to three weekly flights between Mérida and Flores, and four between Cancún and Flores, which allows a much-needed connectivity for the Mundo Maya to promote a multi-destination option in the region.
