Mexico: the first long weekend will leave millions of profits for tourist services

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that during the first long weekend of the year, which runs from February 3 to 6, 2023, an economic spill of 47 thousand 219 million pesos is expected. by consumption of tourist services in the destinations of the country.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that in this period, corresponding to the Anniversary of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, which is commemorated on February 5, only the expected income for lodging is 4 thousand 315 million pesos.

He stressed that during these four days, the arrival of 1 million 524 thousand tourists to the hotel is expected, which represents 25.6% more compared to the same 'bridge' of 2022, and is only 4.2% away from reaching what was registered in the same period of holiday 2019.

Torruco Marqués indicated that of the estimated tourists that will use the lodging services, 1 million 112 thousand will be national tourists, which represents 73%, as well as 411 thousand international ones, representing the remaining 27%.

He pointed out that the next long weekend a hotel occupancy of 60.6% is expected nationwide, which represents 13.5 percentage points more compared to the same period in 2022, when 47.1% general occupancy was registered.

The Secretary of Tourism specified that additionally this season, 1 million 712 thousand national tourists will stay in another form of lodging, such as in the homes of relatives and friends, as well as in second homes.

He also indicated that for this long weekend, another 359,000 tourists, both national and foreign, are expected to stay in collaborative economy accommodation offered on digital platforms.

The occupancy percentage that will be reached in some beach tourist destinations in the country will be: Nuevo Vallarta, with 91.3%; Puerto Vallarta, with 84.4%; Riviera Maya, with 78.6%; Cancun with 77.2%; Los Cabos with 76.2%; and Acapulco with 68.5%.

For city destinations, it will be: Mérida, with 62.2%; Monterrey, with 61.6%, Mexico City, with 60.6%; and the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, with 46.8%; while in Magical Towns like Tulum, the occupation will reach 78%; Isla Mujeres 63.9%; and Palenque 33%.

The head of Sectur reiterated that tourists traveling through the country's highways have the support of the Ángeles Verdes General Directorate of Tourist Services, with mechanical assistance and tourist advice in more than 37 thousand kilometers, in 199 highway sections, through the toll-free number 078 and in the mobile application, available on iOS and Android; and that the "Alfonso García González" Geointelligence Center will locate the closest unit that will provide care.
