Guatemala bets and encourages internal tourism

As part of the actions that the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism -INGUAT- promotes this year to motivate Guatemalans to carry out internal tourism, the project "Traveling through Guatemala" was presented, which seeks to promote trips to the different tourist attractions of the country.

The project plans to disseminate two to three apartments per month, except for the months with high season. The schedule is as follows:

February: Sololá and Santa Rosa
March: Izabal and Quetzaltenango
May: San Marcos, Upper Verapaz and Lower Verapaz
June Escuintla and Huehuetenango
August: Zacapa, Chimaltenango
September: Sacatepéquez and Petén
October: Retalhuleu and Jutiapa
November: Chiquimula and Totonicapán


Viajando por Guate seeks to strengthen the organization between the public and private sectors so that the offer of destinations is diversified in a coordinated manner, presenting information on tourist services so that the Guatemalan population can plan their visit, having access to: packages , lodging establishments, tour operators, tourist guides, cultural activities, among others.

According to the INGUAT Market Research Department, the internal tourism movement in 2022 was 6 million trips with overnight stays and 14 million without overnight stays, both modalities left an estimated economic benefit of 48 billion quetzales.

For this year, a movement of: 7 million trips with an overnight stay and 15.7 million without an overnight stay is projected, which are expected to generate an economic benefit of more than 50 thousand 500 million quetzales.
