Mexico receives more than 20 million international tourists by air in 2022

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that, during 2022, the arrival of 20 million 601 thousand international tourists by air to our country according to their nationality was registered, which represents an increase of 46.3% compared to with what was registered in 2021.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that, according to information from the Unit for Migration Policy-Registry and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), this figure also exceeds the arrivals registered in 2019, with the 8.2%, when 19 million 39 thousand international tourists were registered.

He indicated that the main countries in arrivals of international tourists by air to Mexico from January to December 2022, were the United States, Canada and Colombia, with 15 million 620 thousand tourists; this is 39.5% more than in 2021, and also exceeding the 13 million 424 thousand tourists of 2019 by 16.4%.

Torruco Marqués pointed out that, in 2022, the arrival of American tourists by air reached 13 million one thousand tourists, which means 27% more than in 2021, when 10 million 240 thousand tourists arrived, also exceeding the arrivals of 2019 by 23.7%. , which were 10 million 511 thousand tourists.

He added that the arrival of Canadian tourists during 2022 was one million 759 thousand tourists, this is 249.4% higher than the 503 thousand 589 tourists who arrived in 2021; being 23.8% away from reaching those captured in 2019, which were 2 million 310 thousand tourists.

During the period January-December 2022, the arrival of Colombians by air was 858,840 tourists, 88.8% higher than in 2021, when 454,880 international tourists arrived, and also exceeding the 602,832 arrivals of 2019, with 42.5%, said the head of Sectur.

Of the rest of the nationalities, 4 million 981 thousand tourists were recorded, this is an increase of 72.7% compared to 2021, and representing a market share of 24.2%.

The Secretary of Tourism reported that, in 2022, Cancun, the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Los Cabos were the airports that received the largest number of international tourists, with 15 million 871 thousand tourists, that is 46.5%. more than in 2021; also exceeding with 8.2%, the arrivals of 2019, when 14 million 671 thousand tourists arrived.

9 million 494 thousand international tourists arrived at the Cancun airport, this is 47.7% more than in 2021; 4 million 204 thousand tourists arrived at the AICM, 56.7% more than in 2021; and the Los Cabos airport received 2 million 173 thousand international tourists, this is 26.1% more than what was observed during 2021.

In 2022, the rest of the airports registered the arrival of 4 million 730 thousand international tourists, a higher level of 45.6% compared to all arrivals in 2021.
