Guatemala, through the Guatemalan Tourism Institute -INGUAT- adhered to the International Code for the Protection of Tourists promoted by the World Tourism Organization in the presence of the Secretary General of said organization, Zurab Pololikashvilli, the President of the Republic of Guatemala and ministers of tourism in the region.

According to the UNWTO, this document is the fundamental reference framework for the recovery of tourism after COVID-19, which provides minimum standards on the protection of tourists in emergency situations and the rights of tourists as consumers.

The code is aimed at governments, public and private agents, and tourists themselves, and its objective is to restore consumer confidence and make the tourist environment more attractive, creating a sense of security among tourists/travellers and improving the contractual relationship between providers and recipients of the various tourist services.

This adhesion is voluntary and for Guatemala it will allow the promotion of recommendations for the creation of policies that contribute to the protection of national and international visitors.
