Meliá Hotels International continues to strengthen its luxury portfolio, which will grow by more than 40% in the next 3 years, and has just announced a new project for its ME by Meliá luxury lifestyle brand in the historic center of Malaga.

The hotel will be located on Calle Victoria, next to Plaza de la Merced, with views of the sea and the monumental complex of the Alcazaba. Around it is the Roman Theater, the Picasso Museum or the Museum of Malaga. This location, in full contact with the most important and dynamic cultural and gastronomic area of the city, is the ideal setting for the ME by Meliá brand, which is inspired by the most contemporary and innovative European scene. Thus, with this proposal, Meliá will bring to the capital of Malaga one of its most iconic brands with the best recognition in the luxury segment, which combines architecture, design, art and gastronomy to provide its guests with an authentic experience connected to the essence of destination.

The conceptual design of the hotel has been prepared by ASAH (Álvaro Sans Arquitectura Hotelera), taking inspiration from another hotel of the brand, the ME Milan, a benchmark for urban luxury in Italy. The façade of the building opens with numerous windows and combining the white color with the limestone of Malaga, creating a greater sense of place. On the ground floor, where the main restaurant and a large reception room will be located, the transition between the spaces occurs progressively, giving life to the urban environment and favoring contact with the city.

On the first floor, the hotel will have a convention center and a gym, while the rooms are distributed on the next four: a total of 128. In the penthouse, there will be a large outdoor heated infinity pool with a solarium, bar and a restaurant that, without a doubt, aspires to become the best rooftop in the city of Malaga. These spaces will be the epicenter of the hotel's social life and cultural agenda, thus reflecting the nature of the ME by Meliá brand: a reflection of the latest trends and artistic creations on the local scene.

Once the archaeological surveys that are being carried out on the land have been completed, respectfully developed and aligned with the Heritage recommendations, the construction of the hotel could begin in March, with the executive project and construction management in charge of the architecture studio of Domingo Corpas, and end at the end of 2024.

The project, which had initially been planned as a 4-star hotel, has been modified to raise its category to 5 stars and allow the entry of the ME by Meliá brand. This decision has been possible with the intervention of the Malaga City Council and shows the commitment of all parties involved to boost the quality of the destination and improve its competitiveness in the luxury segment.

As Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá, has expressed, "I am convinced that, in this city, ME by Meliá will find its natural space to respond with great success to the demand of the new traveler for experiential luxury, and I share the vision and the commitment of both the Malaga City Council and our partners in the project, to make this hotel a benchmark for luxury, modernity and prosperity on the Costa del Sol”.
