The arrival of the executive, with prominent positions in the public and private sectors, crowns the group's progress in terms of corporate governance and experience in the tourism and hospitality sector. “Based on international standards, Grupo Leceres will look for opportunities in Brazil to develop projects creating new brands in national tourism”, says Lummertz.
In the private sector, Lummertz, graduated in Political Sciences from the University of Paris, has already held several positions on the boards of large companies and was vice-president of the Global Summit of the World Travel & Tourism Council in Brazil. In the public sector, he was Minister of Tourism, President of Embratur and, until the end of last year, Secretary of Tourism and Travel of the State of São Paulo.
Lummertz was chosen by R Cap – the management company that acquired Grupo Leceres in 2021 through one of its funds – for his experience in the various segments of tourism and for representing the relevance of a remarkable and independent board of directors guiding the company’s management. Grupo Leceres is one of the largest national hotel chains, with 10 facilities in different tourist cities, including Salvador, Foz do Iguaçu and Gramado.
After the acquisition of the hotels that now make up the group, last year the loss was reversed into profit, reaching an EBITDA of R$ 42 million. Total revenue for hotels under the Wish, Prodigy, Linx and Marupiara brands and other group services was R$396 million in 2022, an increase of 39% compared to R$284 million in 2019, the pre-pandemic year.
According to Lummertz, his arrival is related to the progress in hotel management, leading the Leceres Group to plan new possibilities for acquiring businesses in the hotel, timeshare and entertainment markets. “Our ambition is to give visibility to investors and to the growing Brazilian domestic tourism, qualifying services at international levels. And as a result, we will generate more value for investors and maximize the potential of tourism, with a Brazilian look and feel.”
