The head of Sectur indicated that, based on the Foreign Direct Investment Records of the Ministry of Economy, the IEDT in 2022, was equivalent to 9.8% of the National Foreign Investment.
He specified that, in the fourth quarter of 2022, the FDI registered 187.1 million dollars, and the countries that registered the highest flow of FDI in Mexico in this period were: United States, 157.4 million dollars, which represents 84.1% of the total ; Canada, 39.3 million dollars, this is 21% of the total; France, 12.8 million dollars, which means 6.8% of the total; Colombia, 9.6 million dollars, that is, 5.1% of the total; and Germany, 2.1 million dollars with 1.1% of the total.
Torruco Marqués highlighted that the entities that in the fourth quarter of 2022 captured the largest flow of FDI were: Baja California Sur, 67.9 million dollars, which represents 36.3% of the total; Nayarit, with 32.8 million dollars, this is 17.5% of the total; San Luis Potosí, 27.4 million dollars, this is 14.7% of the total; Mexico City, with 18.4 million dollars, which means 9.9% of the total; and Yucatan, with 10.3 million dollars, 5.5% of the total.
Torruco Marqués reiterated that the historical record since the first semester of 2022, the Foreign Direct Investment in Tourism captured throughout the year 2019 was exceeded; as well as the historical maximum of the IEDT captured in all of 2017.
The foregoing reflects the confidence that Mexico offers to international investors and businessmen, who contribute to strengthening the tourist infrastructure of the different destinations in the country, and thereby detonate the economic flow and per capita spending of tourists, so that the benefits permeate to the communities, in compliance with the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool for social reconciliation.
