With the SAK program, a Mayan word that means "clear, clean, when dawn" continues with the cleaning of marine debris on the beaches, mainly in the coastal zone and the cenotes in the Riviera Maya.
This month a collaboration was carried out with the Akumal Ecological Center (CEA), the collaborators of Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort and volunteers who with great enthusiasm met at 7:00 a.m. to begin cleaning the rocky area from the beaches of Akumal where said waste remains anchored.
On this occasion and thanks to the work of each of the participants, a total of approximately 85 kg of marine debris was collected.
Each of the cleaning days are registered in the organizations of World Clean Up day and Ocean Conservacy.

"Plastic waste has a devastating effect on marine life, with this activity, which we will continue to carry out constantly, it is an important step to address the problem and will help protect ocean ecosystems, as well as the livelihoods of those who depend on them. Rethinking, reusing and properly disposing of waste is an urgent need.With this we will be able to improve the quality of maritime-coastal ecosystems, remembering that the diet of a third of the world's population depends on them, as well as the viability of sun and beach destinations in the Mexican Caribbean”
This is one of the activities that requires the greatest presence of volunteers, without a doubt, the cleaning of beach areas and caves. In 2022, a total of 704 kg of waste was collected on 5 beaches and 2 caves.
“We are sure that this year we will continue working with the same enthusiasm and support from everyone to take care of our planet, since it is our only source of both renewable and non-renewable resources. The careful use of water, space, the jungle, fauna and calling for the conservation of our environment”, concluded the Manager of the Eco-Bahía Ecological Foundation.
The collective cleaning days are essentially educational, in order to sensitize the community to the real problems that humanity has caused, such contamination today affects ecosystems and their biodiversity.
