The Tianguis Turístico arrives in Mexico City

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, highlighted before the presidents and representatives of the sector, that the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico México 2023 in Mexico City will be a success thanks to the union of the great tourist family

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, before the presidents and representatives of the main chambers and associations of the sector, stressed that together, the great tourist family, made up of the government and the private initiative, will make the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico México 2023 in Mexico City the best in history.

Accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Nathalie Desplas Puel, and the president of the Mexican Group of Associations of Travel Agencies and Tourism Companies (GMA), Judith Guerra Aguijosa, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur). detailed the details of the Tianguis Turístico México 2023, which will be held at the Citibanamex Center, from March 26 to 29, and in which all the records of the previous 46 editions will be broken.

Torruco Marqués presented a brief tour of the history of the Tianguis Turístico and how it became the most important tourism fair in Latin America, which began in 1975 as the International Fair of Hotels and Tourist Agencies of Acapulco (IHATA) that managed to gather with great success to representatives of the national tourism industry with the main tourist promoters of Mexico abroad; and a year later, it took the name of Tianguis Turístico.

He added that after 36 editions held in Acapulco, starting in 2012, Tianguis Turístico begins its itinerary, presented the results of previous editions, and specified that a few weeks after the event, a record number has already been registered with 1,301 buyers, of 965 companies.

"Every date is reached, and now we will have the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico that will mark a milestone in the history of all previous editions, demonstrating the power of the capital of the Republic and of the service providers, of the travel agents , of the tour operators, of the hoteliers, of the tourist guides, of the artisans, and of all those who are part of the great tourist family”, he commented.

The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that after the pandemic, the recovery of the tourism sector occurred ahead of schedule, thanks to the policies implemented by the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and the important work of the private sector.

“Proof of this is that in 2022, Mexico reached 28 thousand 016 million dollars in foreign exchange, from international visitors, which is how the tourist potential of a nation is measured; it exceeded the historical figure in Foreign Direct Investment in Tourism, by registering 3,447.1 million dollars, exceeding the 1,091.4 million dollars captured in the entire year 2019; Tourism GDP reached 8.6 percent, ”he declared.

The head of Sectur reiterated that, in the Tianguis Turístico México 2023 Mexico City, for the first time there will be a Mundo Maya pavilion, with the presence of Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, as well as the Mayan Train and Tag Airlines, multi-destination tourist product that after 36 years has connectivity.

In addition, it will be the first time that there will be an airline pavilion that connects Mexico with the world, one of handicrafts where artisans can show the creations of their magical hands, as well as a gastronomic pavilion where riches will be available. culinary of our country.

The Tianguis Turístico México 2023 Mexico City, will be the third with an inclusive character, so after the ribbon is cut, there will be the traditional Inclusion Parade, with the participation of people with disabilities, "because in this Government nobody is left out". remarked the secretary.

As part of the academic program, there will be two master conferences, one of them with Rosario Marín, the first woman born in Mexico to hold the position of Treasurer of the United States of America; and the other with Carlos Slim Domit, president of the Telmex Board of Directors. Likewise, more than 30 virtual seminars, panels, conferences, workshops, forums will be given, with various topics of current interest, as well as a meeting with students.

“We invite you to be part of history. The Tourist Tianguis of our country in its 47th edition will demonstrate that when there is a union with the tourist service providers and all those who are part of the great tourist family, things go well”, concluded Torruco Marqués.

On her occasion, the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Nathalie Desplas, highlighted the important role of the tourism sector in the country's capital, representing 9.1 percent of the total GDP of Mexico City and 18.74 percent of the Tourism GDP of the country.

Similarly, he highlighted that at the headquarters of the next Tianguis Turístico de México, 14 percent of employment corresponds to activities related to tourism, which makes it the entity that contributes the most to tourism employment in the country.

When announcing the details of the Tianguis Turístico 2023, he detailed to the attendees some of the innovations that he will have for this edition, among which are:

· The largest pavilion that a host city has ever had.  

· The Mexico City Tourist Festival on Paseo de la Reforma, which will take place from the Ángel de la Independencia to the Glorieta de la Dina.

· A scenario for activations of the states in the Bosque de Chapultepec.

· Illumination of iconic buildings in Mexico City with colors alluding to the Tianguis Turístico.

· Academic day and training courses

He recognized the joint work between the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico and the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico City, so that the capital of the country, "the city that has everything" becomes an international benchmark, where its inhabitants, its exhibitors, its tourists and its national and international buyers, demonstrate once again that it is the fashionable city, not only of now, but also of tomorrow, at the level of the most important capitals of the world.

For her part, Judith Guerra Aguijosa, president of the Grupo Mexicano de Asociaciones de Agencias de Viajes y Empresas Turísticas (GMA), pointed out that this is the time for the great tourism industry: travel agents, tour operators, hotels, transporters and all the actors of tourism. "It is time for Mexico to break all records in economic spillovers, spending and investment," she said.

He thanked the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Nathalie Desplas and all those who make up the value chain, for their great effort to bring the Tianguis Turístico to Mexico City.

He reiterated that Mexico is a range of tourist destinations, and that in a joint effort with Sectur Federal and Sectur Ciudad de México, new routes, new circuits, new tourist attractions, new anchor products and new experiences have been implemented, which are an opportunity of growth travel agents.
