The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that in January 2023 there were 4 million 980 thousand passengers transported on domestic flights, this is 31.3% more than in the same period of 2022 and also exceeding 24.5 % the 4 million one thousand passengers transported in the same month of 2019.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) added that, in the first month of 2023, 4 million 995 thousand passengers were transported on international flights, this is 32.4% higher than January 2022; and also exceeding by 12.9% the 4 million 423 thousand passengers transported during that month of 2019.

He indicated that, in January 2023, on domestic flights, the airlines with the highest activity were Volaris and Viva Aerobus, which together transported 3 million 559 thousand passengers; surpassing with 23.6% what was registered in the first month of 2022 and with 78.8% the passengers of that period of 2019.

The five main airlines with the highest arrival of passengers on domestic flights in January 2022 were Volaris, Viva Aerobus, Aeroméxico, Aeroméxico Connect and TAR Aerolíneas, which added a 99% market share, said the Secretary of Tourism.

He pointed out that, in January 2023, the main Mexican airlines that transported passengers on international flights were Aeroméxico and Volaris, which reported one million 32 thousand passengers, which means an increase of 35.5% more compared to what was registered in January 2022; also surpassing with 19.5% the passengers of January 2019, when they transported 864 thousand 111 passengers.

Torruco Marqués commented that the US airlines that in the first month of 2022 had the highest passenger flow were American Airlines and United Airlines, which transported 1,180,000 passengers, exceeding the passengers of the same month of 2022 with 32.9% and with 49.4%. % passengers from January 2019.

He affirmed that in terms of passengers transported on international flights in January 2023, according to the main markets, North America concentrates a share of 84.8% of the total, of which, from the US market, 2 million 420 thousand passengers were transported, with a 24.4% increase, compared to January 2022; meanwhile, one million 283 thousand passengers correspond to international flights on Mexican airlines, this is 31% more than during January 2022; and 534 thousand 153 passengers on flights from Canada, which represents an increase of 180.4%, compared to what was transported in January 2022.

The head of Sectur stressed that during the first month of 2023, the European market had an increase of 5.4%, with 346,950 passengers transported; from Central and South America the increase was 22.8%, reporting 386 thousand 874 passengers; and from Asia it grew 77.9%, with 24,291 passengers, compared to January 2022.
