2 thousand 835 million dollars enter Mexico for international visitors in January

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that the income of foreign currency from international visitors in January 2023 was 2,835 million dollars, this is 43.1% more compared to 2022; and also exceeding with 23.9% what was captured in the same period of 2019, which was 2 thousand 289 million dollars.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that, based on the results of the International Travelers Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), during the month of January 2023, 3 million 397 thousand international tourists entered the country, which represents 28.5% more than what was captured in 2022; being 2.5% away from reaching the 3 million 483 thousand international tourists who entered in the same period of 2019.

He pointed out that the average expenditure of international tourists in the period January 2023 was 778.2 dollars, which means 10.1% more compared to 2022, and also exceeding with 29.3% the 601.6 dollars registered in the same period of 2019.

Torruco Marqués reported that, in the first month of 2023, one million 970 thousand international tourists by air arrived in Mexico, this represents 32.8% more compared to 2022, also exceeding 12.6% of international tourists by air captured in the same month. period of 2019, which were one million 749 thousand tourists.

He commented that the income of foreign exchange by tourists entering by air in January 2023 had an increase of 40.6% compared to 2022, registering two thousand 415 million dollars, which also represents an increase of 28.5% compared to one thousand 879 million dollars raised in the same period of 2019.

He pointed out that the average expenditure of tourists admitted by air during January 2023 registered a thousand 225.8 dollars; with a growth of 5.9% compared to 2022, and exceeding with 14.1% the average expense of one thousand 74.2 dollars, registered in January 2019.

The Secretary of Tourism stressed that, in January 2023, 6 million 365 thousand international visitors entered the country, registering a growth of 37.7% compared to 2022; being only 19.7% away from reaching the arrival of international visitors in the same period of 2019, when 7 million 924 thousand international visitors arrived.

He added that, in January 2023, the balance of the balance for international travelers was 2 thousand 168 million dollars, this is 46.4% more than what was registered in January 2022; also exceeding with 59.4% the balance of dollars raised in the same period of 2019.

The head of Sectur specified that these figures indicate that the expectations will be met that, by the end of 2023, Mexico will attract 31 thousand 169 million dollars from international visitors, in accordance with expectations, and in line with the policy of the current administration that prioritizes the capture of foreign currency and per capita spending, so that the benefits of the economic flow permeate to the communities of the 235 places with a tourist vocation, to comply with the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool of social reconciliation.
