Uruguayan Ministry of Tourism and Iberia: ambitious promotional campaign

The Spanish airline increased its commitment to the South American country and already has a higher capacity than it had before the pandemic with a daily flight

After holding a meeting in Uruguay, the authorities of the Ministry of Tourism reported on the agreement reached with Iberia, through which an ambitious promotional campaign will be carried out with which this South American destination will be promoted in the different destinations that Iberia operates in Europe.

Among the actions that will be taken to achieve the goal of better positioning Uruguay as a leading destination in Latin America, videos about the country will be published on the Iberia in-flight entertainment system, it will be featured in the Ronda magazine and They will carry out actions in different social networks, among others.

For the signing of this agreement, Víctor Moneo Ocaña, director of Alliances and Strategic Agreements of Iberia, Isabel Orozco, manager of strategic agreements of Iberia, Anibal Perdomo, commercial executive of Iberia in Uruguay as well as the Minister of Tourism were present at the meeting. from Uruguay, Tabaré Viera, the Vice Minister of Tourism, Remo Monzeglio, the General Director of the Secretariat, Ignacio Curbelo and the National Director of Tourism, Roque Baudean.

“Uruguay is a key market for Iberia and this agreement only endorses the commitment that our company makes for the country. At the beginning of this year we already managed to recover all the capacity we had before the pandemic and, even, we are above the figures for 2019, which shows that it is a country that has significant interest and demand levels for both sides of the Atlantic”, considers Víctor Moneo Ocaña, director of Alliances and Strategic Agreements at Iberia.

For his part, the Minister of Tourism of Uruguay, Tabaré Viera, highlighted the work that has been carried out with the company, which has made it possible to increase the number of frequencies and consolidate it in the country, exceeding the pre-pandemic figures. “Iberia is the entrance to the European market and for which our country is working hard in promotional fairs. On the other hand, starting to have advertising and promotion on the company's flights will position our country and can generate the arrival of new tourists, not only from Europe but also from other continents."

The route between Montevideo and Madrid is one of those that has benefited from the renewed commitment that Iberia is making in Latin America by 2023. Specifically, since January of this year, a total of seven weekly frequencies began to operate, that is, , a daily flight, a level of capacity that will be maintained for the rest of the year. The airline operates the route between Uruguay and Spain with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, with capacity for 288 passengers: 19 in Business class and 269 in Turista, thus providing users with more than 156,000 seats per year.
