During the 1960s, it was common for English Harbor's classic yachts and sailboats to be chartered. From that moment it became a tradition for the crews to challenge each other to a regatta to the island of Guadalupe at the end of each season.

This informal competition originated in 1967 the renowned Antigua Sailing Week where the participants went with their classic boats every year. During the following 24 years, in each edition, the classic boats were increasingly surpassed by the technological advances brought by the most modern boats and that is why the captains Uli Pruesse and Kenny Coombs organized and founded the Antigua Classic Yacht together with other competitors. Over time, the nautical event has evolved to become one of the most celebrated events on the islands. Starting this year, the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is run by a team headed by Paul Deeth, who announced that the goal is to return to the regatta the original concept of its founder, Kenny Coombs: "like-minded people coming together to share their passion for impressive yacht racing in unbeatable sailing conditions".
