The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that the Mayan Train will boost the flow of tourists, the economic benefit and per capita spending, thanks to the wide range of tourist activities that can be carried out at throughout your journey.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) specified that the agency under his charge, as head of the sector, holds the Ordinary Sessions of the Technical Committee of the National Fund for Tourism Promotion (Fonatur) in which timely follow-up is given to the projects that it carries out, especially the advances of the Mayan Train.

He stressed that in this vein, he delivered to Brigadier General DEM René Trujillo Miranda, General Director of the Airport, Railway and Auxiliary Services Group Olmeca - Maya - Mexicana SA de CV a proposal with 64 package options and routes through the 20 stations that will make up the Mayan Train; and periodic meetings will be held to assist this company, in charge of the future operation of this railway system, with works and studies that contribute to the fulfillment of its objective.

He also indicated that these tours, which will be offered when this important project is launched in December 2023, were carried out by consensus with travel agents, guides and tourism officials from the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana. Roo.

Torruco Marqués specified that these package options optimize the use of existing tourist infrastructure, products and services in 40 municipalities and 181 localities, which are complemented by the construction of six Mayan Train hotels that will be located at different points along the route.

Through a catalog of 117 attractions and complementary destinations of cultural and nature tourism, it is possible to recognize the points of tourist interest to choose stays of one to three nights in the area of ​​each of the Mayan Train stations, which will travel the states of Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Campeche, Chiapas and Tabasco.

The Secretary of Tourism stressed that the document establishes activities around each of the stations. Thus, a national or foreign tourist will be able to live the experience of being on board the Mayan Train, in addition to spending the night and visiting various sites and tourist attractions along the route such as 14 Magical Towns, 6 World Heritage Sites, 18 indigenous paradises, 50 archaeological zones and 29 complementary destinations or localities, among others.

He added that, with the purpose of taking advantage of the existing infrastructure, as well as complementing the current possibilities of visiting segments such as Meeting, Romance, Health, Well-being and Retirement Tourism, the document suggests that 44 of the 64 tour options can enrich the current offer.

He pointed out that the tourist experience aboard the 42 trains and a total of 219 wagons, is complemented by the suggestions of "The Menus of the Mayan Train Route" made up of the most representative dishes of the gastronomy of the states of the Mexican southeast.

This proposal, designed with the wise advice of chef Jorge Orozco, includes more than 30 dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, such as chipilín tamales, motuleño eggs, panuchos, cochinita pibil, venison tzic , lime soup, stuffed cheese and papadzules, to name a few.

With the purpose of consolidating the Mayan Train as one of the most important tourism projects in the world, within the framework of the ITB fair in Berlin, Germany, the Secretary of Tourism held a meeting with executives of the company Lernidee Trains and Cruises, one of the main international tour operators that offer extraordinary experiences, specialized in tourist train packages around the world.

Likewise, he extended an invitation so that, at the end of this 2023, they learn about the route and services that the Mayan Train will offer in its more than 1,500 kilometers of journey , so that they experience this great trip through the Mexican southeast, very similar to those that today are part of its catalog of products that take tourists to Asia, Europe or North America.

The head of Sectur emphasized that the Mayan Train, the most important tourist work in 60 years, offers the opportunity to increase the economic benefit and per capita spending of tourists in destinations in the southeast of Mexico during their stay.
