Hyatt: growth and expansion plans in South America with new regional development leader

Cristiano Gonçalves, experienced executive and leader in the hotel industry, was appointed Vice President of Development for the hotel company for South America

Hyatt Hotels Corporation today announced the appointment of Cristiano Gonçalves as Vice President of Development dedicated to leading Hyatt's expansion in South America. This appointment will continue the growth that Hyatt has had in the Latin American and Caribbean region in recent years, where more than 80 hotels have been opened to date.

Gonçalves will be responsible for leading a strategic expansion plan specific to South America, while continuing to build relationships with potential investors for new projects in one of the markets that matter most to World of Hyatt guests, clients and members.

Gonçalves was appointed in February 2023 and will report to Camilo Bolaños, Hyatt's Senior Vice President of Development, Latin America and the Caribbean. Gonçalves will lead Hyatt's development team after more than two decades of work in the industry. His most recent work experience was overseeing the direct execution of several high-profile franchise and management agreements for InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to IHG, Cristiano served as Vice President of Development for Hilton Worldwide for South America, where he created and executed a dedicated growth and development strategy for the region; 
He has also signed several new hotel deals to expand the brand's portfolio in key South American cities.

With the most active pipeline of projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, Hyatt has doubled the number of luxury rooms, tripled the number of resorts, and quadrupled the number of rooms targeted at the lifestyle sector in the region during the last five years. The brand recently celebrated the opening of new hotels and tourist destinations in key cities in the region, further strengthening its presence and capturing the strong demand for leisure travel in this area.
