The capital of Rio de Janeiro will host the Web Summit, one of the largest global technological innovation events, which will be held for the first time in South America. Initiatives to improve tourism through the use of technology and predictive models will be analyzed.

Listed by Forbes magazine as "the World Cup of technology conferences", the Web Summit brings together innovators from around the world to learn first-hand about future technology trends and their protagonists. Scheduled for May 1 to 4 at Riocentro -a convention center located in Barra de Tijuca, west of the capital of Rio-, the event expects a call of 15 thousand attendees.

Embratur will participate in the Web Summit through Embratur Lab, its technological innovation area whose objective is to create solutions to the problems of tourism in Brazil through partnerships with startups, and whose headquarters are in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

"We are going to work together with the city government to identify problems and find solutions for tourism through technology. And we will test these solutions here in Rio, which will be our great innovation laboratory," Embratur president Marcelo said. Freixo, after meeting with the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes. At the meeting, Freixo and Paes also agreed to seek a partnership with the Environment Ministry to improve the management of the Tijuca National Park, whose main attraction is Christ the Redeemer, and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world.

Embratur Lab was designed -in partnership with the private consultancy Turistech Hub Brasil- to promote the competitiveness and environmental sustainability of travel sector services. One of its objectives is to help tourism companies identify consumer trends and behaviors to personalize their offers and meet demand based on predictive models. The use of technology to improve the experience of international tourists in Brazil includes among its tasks the development of technology that allows reducing the carbon footprint of tourism, including renewable energy and sustainable practices in companies in the hotel and service sector.

Web Summit has been listed by the Financial Times as "the largest technology conference in the world", and the Rio de Janeiro edition will be one of the international events of the year in the sector together with the Web Summit in Lisbon, Collision in Toronto and RISE in Hongkong.
