After the crisis experienced during the pandemic, the tourism sector began a gradual recovery. The hotel industry, which was one of the most affected, has already recovered part of its activity rates from pre-pandemic levels, and since 2022 it has maintained its presence in the ranking of best hotels and resorts in South America.
Under this encouraging panorama, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism, PROMPERÚ, continues to promote the attraction, retention and expansion of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) with the purpose, above all, of generating goods and services that increase the exportable supply and tourism in our country; For this reason, it participates in SAHIC Latin America & The Caribbean 2023, the largest hotel and tourism investment forum in Latin America and the Caribbean, which takes place in Cartagena, Colombia, from March 27 to 28.
During the event, it seeks to consolidate the image of Peru as one of the main target markets for investments in tourism in Latin America, promoting our country as a favorable destination for foreign direct investment. To this end, PROMPERÚ participates in a working group and a specialized panel at the conference, in which the investment opportunities offered by our country in the hotel segment and in other areas of tourism activity are promoted. By 2023, the tourism sector in the region is expected to receive investments of USD 300 million.
SAHIC has two days of sessions and business opportunities, which include an academic and debate space, and a thematic agenda where participants will have greater interaction to promote business and investment projects among developers, investors and other key players in the tourism sector. In addition, it will have express networking sessions for all registered attendees.
