Every year, since 2007, "Earth Hour" is celebrated on the last Saturday of March, the largest environmental movement in the world and invites us to challenge the world to save it through an awareness campaign to turn off the lights for 60 minutes, as a sign of our daily commitments to a life that is respectful of the planet,
Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort switched off the lights at 8:30 p.m. in the main lobby of each hotel. This initiative created by the NGO WWF makes small actions added mean a better future for the following generations.

Within the framework of this day, the Eco-Bahía Foundation, through its environmental education program, carried out a series of guided tours inside the Nature Interpretation Center at the Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort facilities, in order to bring children with nature, learning good environmental practices and the importance of different ecosystems.

Closing with the tour with a series of recreational activities, such as crafts, in which the little ones reflected in an artistic way by painting and creating a mural that with the participation of all of us can take care of our planet.

“Earth Hour marks a great opportunity to raise awareness in our society and instill in children the importance of caring for the environment. This is why through crafts such as painting your world, the children painted while we talked to them about how each of us can help to have a healthy planet.

In our beautiful nature interpretation space called Tumben-Lu`um, the little ones were able to connect and appreciate the flora and fauna that surrounds us in the Mayan jungle, picking up a stone so that at the end of the tour they would place it in a special and especial place. make a promise that they will do in favor of caring for the planet.

We are left with the wonderful work of art where the children left their footprints as a perpetual record of this great day in being aware of the environment and helping our home, which is the Earth”, commented Yuritzi Espino, Manager of the Ecological Foundation Eco -Bay.

Earth Hour is a call to, in addition to protecting the environment, recycle more, create less trash and invite others to be more aware of their surroundings.
