El Salvador is participating in Tanguis Turístico de México promoting its attractions, there we had the opportunity to talk with Boris Hiraeta, Marketing Manager of CORSATUR. Below their answers.

How is the current situation of El Salvador as a tourist destination?
We are in a process of changing the perception that was had. It is a reality that for many tourists, our country was a total unknown or there was an idea that it was not entirely safe. Therefore, we find ourselves with the task of reversing this negative perception, towards a safe country in which to live and invest.

What is the planning that they are applying?
The strategy we are using is called Surf City, in which we seek to position ourselves as a surf destination. This year we will have six world events of this discipline, among them the world surfing, which will serve as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. We want it to be the gateway to the rest of the tourist sites that we offer.

What other experiences does the destination offer?
We are an adventure destination, for couples, for young people with small children. Something that characterizes us is for offering ecotourism, where tourists will get to know a volcanic mountain range that crosses the center of the country. We also have 46% of the dry mangroves of the North Pacific, with which we are a refuge for migratory birds. In addition, those interested in culture and archeology can visit Joya de Cerén, which is a historical heritage and is the only place where you can see what a Mayan village was like before the colony.
