The Dominican Republic is participating in WTM Latin America promoting its attractions, there we had the opportunity to talk with Roberto Enríquez, Vice Minister of Quality of the Ministry of Tourism.

What does an event like WTM Latin America mean for your country?

-It is a very important event. The Brazilian market is very important for us, especially at this time when Mexico is asking Brazilians for a Visa and we do not ask for it, so the Brazilian becomes much more welcome on Dominican soil.

What distinguishes tourism in the Dominican Republic?

-Currently, we are working on a tourism quality label called cualitud , through which we are certifying, together with the Ministry of Tourism and Public Health, all hotels, bars, restaurants, travel agencies, tour operators and tours. throughout the country, regarding the quality and guarantee of service to Dominican tourists and foreign tourists. This generates certainty that the product is working very well, and due to this operation, we were selected by the UNWTO as the best country for tourism worldwide. We are always anticipating the facts to ensure customer satisfaction in the Dominican Republic.

What is the role of the companies that come to accompany them?

-We have around 18 collaborating companies that are supporting us at the stand in the Dominican Republic to sell their products. Undoubtedly, this is a commitment to work carried out as a team. All decisions in the country are made through a public-private sector board, focused on improving tourism.

What is the expectation of travelers and tourists for this year?

-This year we are anticipating a tourism attendance of almost 10 million, a record never seen in the country, because the Dominican Republic is in fashion. In fact, every month we have broken new records, and today in Puerto Plata, which is the North coast and the only destination that has two tourist ship ports, we have received the largest ships in the world.

How are you promoting connectivity in the Dominican Republic?

-We are doing very good negotiations with Dominican airlines that are being created, motivating them to attract more tourism, giving them more facilities. And we are working very hard on ticket prices, so that there is a better incentive for visits as a destination country.
