The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, led a meeting with members of the Tourism Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, with whom he held a productive dialogue to agree on actions that benefit tourism in the country's destinations.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) explained to the legislators the achievements and advances in tourism achieved in the present administration, as well as the programs in which the agency under his charge is currently working to consolidate Mexico as a power tour.
He detailed the axes of development that are carried out in the different regions of the country, which, aligned with the projects of the Government of Mexico, such as trains, airports, highways, among others, will diversify tourism and economic benefits.
Torruco Marqués affirmed that after this six-year term tourism will have a new face with the conclusion of large projects such as the Mayan Train, the Interoceanic Corridor-Isthmus of Tehuantepec, airports, highways; as well as "anchor" attractions such as the Armando Manzanero Museum, the Museum of Mexican Hospitality, the Mar de Cortés Aquarium in Mazatlán, soon to be inaugurated, the Islas Marías Tourist Center, the Carrera Mar a Mar and the Great Carrera del Desierto, to mention a few, that will make tourism a tool for social reconciliation, as instructed by the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
He pointed out that, as part of the efforts made to diversify tourism in Mexico in its 235 tourist-oriented squares, programs such as "Magic Color Routes" have been promoted to improve the urban image of the Towns and now, also, of the Magical neighborhoods.
The Secretary of Tourism highlighted the achievements made in conjunction with the Legislative Branch, such as the modification to article 35 of the Migration Law, which allows the use of technologies for the entry and exit of international visitors; as well as for the regulation for the accommodation offer through digital platforms which now pay VAT and ISR.
He also highlighted the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico México, which was held for the first time in Mexico City, where historical records were broken as business appointments made with 88,432; 2,338 registered delegates; 1,383 registered companies; the participation of 90 nations including Mexico; 5,111 delegates from 1,429 companies; as well as a preliminary sales volume reported voluntarily by 23 percent of the participating companies, amounting to 1,240 million pesos.
The foregoing, added to the actions implemented by the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, during the pandemic by not restricting international flights, the preparation of biosanitary protocols and the acquisition of vaccines allowed tourism in Mexico to already be in clear recovery. .
Proof of this is the income of foreign currency from international visitors with 28 thousand 16 million dollars in 2022, 14 percent above the 24 thousand 573.2 million dollars captured in 2019, while the average expenditure of international tourists via airfare in the same year was 1,105.7 dollars, this represents an increase of 10.4 percent compared to the average expense of 2019.
On his occasion, the deputy Sergio Barrera Sepúlveda highlighted the great interest of the Tourism Commission of the Chamber of Deputies to contribute, from the legislative level, in the actions carried out by the Ministry of Tourism, since this sector is one of the main economic engines of the country.
He thanked the secretary Miguel Torruco for his willingness to dialogue, in which he presented what is being done well and for allowing them to express their concerns, so that they can join efforts that benefit tourism and society.
For his part, Deputy Leobardo Alcántara Martínez emphasized the actions carried out in Mazatlán, and reiterated his willingness to contribute to the strengthening of this destination and the region.
Meanwhile, Deputy Marco Antonio Armendáriz Puppo highlighted the benefits that tourism represents for Baja California Sur, and presented a series of proposals that can be undertaken to strengthen tourism in La Paz and in the state.
For congressman Alfredo Aurelio González Cruz, it is essential to promote rural tourism, given the relevance of this niche in some regions, such as the state of Oaxaca. He recognized the willingness of the Secretary of Tourism to work on specific programs on the matter.
When taking the floor, Deputy Bruno Blancas Mercado addressed the issue of the road that will connect Puerto Vallarta with Nuevo Nayarit, as well as that of Tonalá with Puerto Vallarta, which added to the projects that are carried out in both destinations, will contribute to the development of tourism and economic spillover.
Likewise, Carlos Noriega Romero indicated that it is important to monitor large investment projects, to detect possible complications that arise during the process. He pointed out that this dialogue format with the head of Sectur favors reaching joint agreements that benefit tourism.
In his speech, Deputy Saúl Hernández Hernández thanked the head of Sectur for the space and openness to dialogue, and agreed on the need for legislators to be part of the work agenda in the actions undertaken by the agency, and thus support hand the tourism sector.
The Secretary of Tourism affirmed that communication with legislators will be strengthened so that they are duly informed and contribute to the development of activities that promote tourism in Mexico.
As part of the agreements reached, the deputies will have a place in the Security Table that is held monthly, where the government agencies related to this matter participate and where the participation of legislators will be of the utmost importance; Likewise, they will be informed about the training and integration activities of the product that are carried out in the localities of the country.
