The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic held the first Trade Show in Miami last Wednesday, and there we had the opportunity to talk with Victor Pachero, CEO of Arajet.
What does Arajet mean?
It is a Dominican airline conceived to be able to democratize Aviation, the name "Ara" is how the Taino Indians of the Dominican Republic called the macaw, a bird of many colors that inspired us to create the brand since it comes from the organic world, and Arajet operates new aircraft that are the most efficient from an ecological point of view. They also have 40% less noise pollution, we are talking about the 737 Max, which is the plane that our airline operates and which also emits less CO than the planes used by our competitors.
What destinations do you currently cover?
We have a fleet of five 737 max 8 aircraft, it is the first time an airline has been born in Latin America with new aircraft that come directly from the factory. As of today, there are 45 committed aircraft, and we will receive another five this year to end 2023 with ten. In addition, we have 17 routes operating from Cancun, Mexico City, Guatemala, San Salvador, San José Costa Rica. Barranquilla, Cali, Cartagena, Medellín and Bogotá in Colombia. Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador. Lima in Peru. Aruba, Curacao, Saint Martin and Jamaica in the Caribbean. All those routes are being covered since last year.
And what about the United States?
We have already requested new routes and are in the process of flying to the United States initially to Miami, Puerto Rico and New York.
What is Arajet's goal within the aviation industry?
We have found an opportunity to be able to offer lower rates where they are needed, if one today looks at the historical rates of many of the points that I mentioned where we serve, one sees that the competitors before had rates of 1000 or 1200 dollars, and today today they have a rate close to 300, so we call that the “Arajet effect”, since there was a need for an airline like Arajet.
In relation to extending the range of flights, do you plan to reach more destinations in Latin America?
Yes, we have requested the routes of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Bolivia for this 2023.
The enormous way in which Arajet is constituting itself is striking...
Arajet decided to form a world-class team, we have experts from European and American airlines and from different parts of the world, and for each specific airline function we look through headhunters for the best person we can find and invite them to relocate to the Republic Dominican.
Could it be said that Arajet is an ambassador of the Dominican Republic in the countries?
That's right, we have an important job to promote the Dominican Republic. We are proud to be Dominicans and when we think about our growth, we see that we can get closer to that Dominican diaspora that has expanded in America, but that we can also promote tourism. Today we have a clientele that is 50% Dominican and 50% foreign, which is a pretty healthy mix for an airline.
What message do you want to give to those who are in this category to approach Arajet services?
We love partnering with tour operators and travel agents. We have the door open and you can write directly to grupos@arajet.com for any question or for a commercial approach.
